A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
March has arrived, and we're excited for all the wonderful activities planned for our students this month!
First and foremost, March is Reading Month! We have a fantastic lineup of activities planned throughout the month to encourage a love of reading in all our students. Make sure to check out the flyer below for more information.
Adding to the excitement, the Scholastic Book Fair will be coming to our school the week of March 3rd - 7th! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to discover new books and add to their home libraries.
In addition to our reading celebrations, we're delighted to invite you to our Family Art Night! Join us on Thursday, March 6th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for a fun-filled evening of artistic expression and family bonding. Even better, you'll be able to shop the Scholastic Book Fair during Family Art Night! It's a wonderful opportunity to create lasting memories with your children and support our school library.
Please also mark your calendars: the end of the 3rd marking period is on Friday, March 28th.
We look forward to a month filled with learning, creativity, and community spirit.
Warm regards,

πππ Birthday Celebrations!! πππ
Just a friendly reminder!
As part of our ongoing efforts to promote healthy and inclusive celebrations, we kindly request that non-edible items be considered for birthday celebrations in the classroom.
Opting for non-food items helps accommodate various dietary preferences and ensures the well-being of all our students. Popular alternatives include small stationery items, bookmarks, or classroom supplies.
We appreciate your understanding and support in fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all our students.

Fun to Be Fit! β½ππ
Spring is in the air (or at least we hope it will be)! As we venture into the month of March, it is important to dress in layers for gym class. The students will participate in St. Patrick's Day themed games. Weather permitting, they will also get some outside exercise. I encourage all students to have layers, including a sweatshirt and coat, since the weather is often unpredictable. As the month progresses, the students will revisit sports that have already been taught in the fall for practice and progression. I look forward to the next few weeks and continuing to help your child's passion for movement!

Happy Reading!
STEM π₯οΈ
This month in STEM class, we read "The Day It Rained Hearts," a book about a little girl who uses hearts that fall from the sky to make valentines for her friends. Following the story, students used small plastic hearts and Keva plank blocks to engineer and build various structures. They also engaged in heart-themed activities on www.starfall.com and www.ABCya.com. They continue to impress me with their creative ideas in STEM class!
Happy Engineering!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Thomson Families!
My name is Abby Ganabathi and I am the school counselor here at Thomson. This is my 10th year as an elementary counselor, and my 5th year at Thomson. As the school counselor, I work with students individually, in small groups, and within their classrooms to provide social-emotional support. I also help families by connecting them with community resources.
Please feel free to contact me at aganabathi@davisonschools.org or (810) 591-0911.
Sleep is so important! Children who are 5-6 years old need 11-12 hours of sleep each night, while older children need 10-11 hours of sleep a night. It helps to count backwards from the time your child wakes up in the morning to be sure they are going to bed at the right time.
The best way to help your child sleep is to set up a bedtime routine. A bedtime routine could look like: brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, and reading a book together.
Be consistent. Children thrive on routines and will do better with bedtime if itβs the same each night.
Avoid screens in your childβs bedroom and be sure to stop screen time an hour before starting their bedtime routine.
If your child is having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, talk to your pediatrician.
Attendance, Tardiness and Leaving Early Matters!
While students should be kept home when they are ill, being at school on-time and staying until dismissal matters. When students are absent, they miss valuable learning time which can have a negative impact on learning. Likewise, arriving late or leaving early, even 5 to 15 minutes, can throw off a child's day. When children walk in late, they can become stressed or experience anxiety, trying to catch up with the start of the day.
Additionally, when children leave early, they often miss the end of the day's closure. Please be mindful that every minute matters and we must work to make the most of every minute!
If your child is going to be absent please don't forget to call the attendance line @ 810-591-0916. This ensures that your student gets marked correctly for the day.
