ROCORI Secondary School Update
March 15, 2024
STUDENT ASSEMBLY - MARCH 19
On March 19th we will have an assembly presented by Student Reach Minnesota in the afternoon. We will have separate assemblies in the afternoon for both RMS and RHS, with an alternative schedule that will feature Jon Pritikin. Jon will deliver a motivational message to students encouraging them to make positive, future-shaping choices in their lives. We have had speakers presented by Student Reach MN the last two years and have found them to be encouraging and positive for our student body.
Information is linked above regarding our speaker, and the organization that is providing them. Just like any school day, only students who have a pass in advance will be allowed to sign out during our speaker. If parents would like to opt their student out for any reasons, please email Mrs. Peterson for RHS or Mr. Nelson for RMS, and an alternative activity will be provided.

STUDENT PARKING AND BUILDING ENTRANCE
All student parking should take place in the south lot nearest door #1, and those students do need a parking permit issued and visible in their window. The only two entrances for students in the morning is door #1 nearest the student parking lot, and door #11 where our buses drop off. In order for those entrances to be supervised and managed we’d ask that students do not enter any other doors. We have redirected some students away from the north lot and door #10.
PBIS
On Thursday, February 29, 2024, staff from RHS and RMS completed the 9-day PBIS training and received a certificate of recognition for excellent service to the state of Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Education as part of the Minnesota School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports implementation. Signed by Governor Tim Walz. The attached image shows participants in this last day of training. Back row: Kylie Stanfield, Anna Panek, Amy Olson, Kristina Clem. Front row: Emily Peterson Kim Horning, Marsha Gilbertson, Shelly Collison.
Shout out to all who have been on this PBIS journey at ROCORI Secondary Schools.
Watch this video to see what we've learned at our trainings and how we intend on implementing the Rocori Way (being kind, being respectful and being responsible) at ROCORI Secondary Schools.
ATTENDANCE LETTERS
If your student has accumulated 12 or more absences during the course of the school year, you may receive an attendance letter. We know that student attendance is vital to student success, and this is an attempt to make every effort to ensure the family is aware. You do not need to do anything differently, until a student reaches 15 absences. This practice comes from our student handbook, and that language is below. All procedures regarding attendance can be found more completely here. We will do an administrative review of this language prior to the 2024-25 school year to explore potential changes.

FAFSA INFO FOR SENIORS
Reminder to Seniors (& Parents): If you are planning to attend college in the fall of 2024 and want to apply for financial aid, make sure to complete the FAFSA. They have made some significant updates to the FAFSA form online, so if you are running into issues/glitches be sure to reach out to the financial aid office at any of the colleges you have applied to for assistance. We received this statement from the MN Office of Higher Education: " On Jan. 30, the U.S. Department of Education (US DOE) announced that colleges and universities will receive 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applicant data beginning in the first half of March. Initially, US DOE had announced institutions and state agencies would begin to receive data by the end of January 2024. This new timeline is up to six weeks later and will cause an additional delay for college-bound students and families to receive financial aid offers, which will likely occur in early to mid-April."
CONGRATS TO ALLIE FABER!
Congratulations to Allie Faber for acceptance into the MY DISTRICT, MY MINNESOTA art exhibit!
Allie Faber's art(see attached) has been selected for the My District, My Minnesota program. Students were invited to submit photos or drawings of life in their district. Each Senator then chose the one they felt was the best representation of their district.
Allie Faber‘s submission was selected to represent District 13 by the district 13 Representative. Allie's art will be on view in the Minnesota Senate Building for the rest of 2024.
BARNES AND NOBLE BOOKFAIR
