NOONGAR SEASON OF DJERAN (APR-MAY)
WA DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY MONDAY 3RD JUNE
PUPIL FREE DAY TUESDAY 4th JUNE
NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 27 MAY - 3 JUNE
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
May is traditionally known as the Month of Mary, during which Catholics and other Christian denominations honor the Virgin Mary. To celebrate the conclusion of the Month of Mary, our school invites our whole community to attend mass on the last Sunday of May called the Mayflower Mass. This Mass is just one way to celebrate Mary as a community.
MAYFLOWER MASS
When: Sunday 26th May
Time: 9am
Place: St Andrew's Parish, Clarkson
All children and parents are encouraged to attend mass this Sunday, I have advised all the children that there will be a FREE sausage sizzle after Mass and any child who attends, may wear FREE DRESS to school on Monday. Please encourage your child to come and see their class teacher or a member of leadership so we know who should be in FREE DRESS Monday.
Overall, the Month of Mary is a time to deepen one's relationship with Mary and to seek her intercession and guidance in our lives. It is a time to reflect on her virtues and emulate her example of faith, humility, and love.
NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK & NATIONAL SORRY DAY
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is taking place between the 27 MAY and 3 JUNE. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue. There have been many moments in Australia’s reconciliation journey that make us want to turn away. But when things are divisive, the worst thing we can do is disengage or disconnect.
On Sunday, we commemorate National Sorry Day. On 26 May each year, Sorry Day marks the anniversary of the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report in the Australian Parliament in 1997 and commemorates Stolen Generations survivors. Whilst a number of those recommendations are yet to be met, we must ensure that Stolen Generations survivors are supported to age with dignity and respect.
UNIFORM FOCUS
Parents would have heard from their children that I have been focusing on the top bottom of shirts being done and ties being neat. You may have even seen me helping students in the morning or throughout the day. Over the next few weeks I will be focusing on hair and jewellery. To clarify:
- Hair should be above shoulder length
- If so, it should be tied up with red, black or white scrunchies, hair ties, ribbons
- No extreme hairstyles or hairstyles that draw undue attention
- A student may wear one single stud in the lower lobe of each ear. Children are to permitted to wear one basic sleeper in each ear. Earrings need to be basic gold or silver or have a simple small glass stone.
- A simple chain/ necklace with a cross or Catholic medallion is permitted. This must be worn underneath items of clothing.
There are no exceptions to this uniform policy and was part of parent and student agreement at enrolment. If you are unfamiliar with our uniform requirements, please refer to the uniform policy on our school website.

SFOA CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to all our children on their efforts in the school cross country yesterday! Every year we are impressed with the effort and application of our children as this event is about persistence and pushing through an uncomfortable feeling. The focus is always on the effort, rather than the results and it was great to see the encouragement and support between peers. A big thank you to Miss K for the coordination of her first school cross country. It was a great event and the successful interschool participants will go on to represent our school at the regional event on Friday 21st June.

The Most Holy Trinity Sunday
The first Sunday after Pentecost is known as The Most Holy Trinity and celebrates the foundational Christian belief that God is one Being who exists in three Persons: Father (God), Son (Jesus) and Spirit (Holy Spirit). The Trinity refers to the idea that God is one, but exists in three different Persons. The word 'trinity' comes from the word 'tri' meaning 'three' and 'unity' meaning 'one'.
May - the Month of Mary
The month of May is a special time for Catholics to pay homage to our Blessed Mother Mary. We pay homage to her. Contrary to misconceptions, we do not worship her.
As Catholics, we honour Mary.
“The Trinity is therefore Love, all at the service of the world, which he wishes to save and recreate.” Pope Francis
Have a blessed week.
