High School Happenings
September 2, 2022
Welcome Back to School!
We had THE BEST first week back!! Students were engaged in "getting to know you" activities, learning the procedures at the high school, and learning how to navigate their new schedules. We had lots of smiles, laughing and learning.
Here's what we accomplished this week:
- Unit Zero lessons- getting to know you, your classmates and your teachers-- we had science classes making slime, English classes spreading kindness through our building, and lots of team building exercises. Be sure to ask your student what was their favorite!
- Class meetings with the administration and counselors to establish expectations, procedures, and reminders about the support system they have in place in school.
- Student ID Dissemination - Students need these everyday. If a student didn't have one, we are working to get them a new one next week.
- Everyone found their bus! (a bigger feat than you'd imagine!)
- Morning carline was adjusted to address traffic congestion- please drive past the outside entrance of the east wing and around the curve to the sidewalk. (You will see Dr. Spiewak standing there). Students should exit cars upon arrival to campus and proceed to wait with us until doors open at 7:15.
- One Book One School- I Will Always Write Back addresses the importance of showing kindness to others. In English classes this past Thursday, our students transformed our halls to show examples of kindness and appreciation for our school community.

These class lists are used in recruitment efforts by the armed services. Information contained in these class lists includes student names, addresses and telephone numbers to be used to contact prospective enlistees.
Students and parents/guardians may elect to have their contact information excluded from the class lists provided to the military services. To have your student’s contact information excluded from the list provided to the military services, you must complete this form by Friday, September 30th.

Financial Aid Timeline – know what to do when 9/13 Tuesday Noon; 9/20 Tuesday 6:30 pm; 9/22 Thursday Noon
Follow financial aid experts Linda Pacewicz and Dan Wray of Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) as they guide you along the exciting (and sometimes bumpy) road to an affordable higher education. The journey will begin before high school and end in the land of education loan repayment – or maybe even education loan forgiveness. One thing is for certain: it’s never too early to start preparing for a successful higher education experience. This 1 hour presentation will provide the starting points and web resources- for effective research before, during and after your student makes postsecondary decisions. Know what to expect and to plan for it is the key. Failing to plan, is planning to fail!
Searching for Scholarships and Affording the Balance 9/8 Thursday Noon; 9/15 Thursday 6:30pm
There are many ways to pay for education, and one important step is to search and apply for Scholarships. More free money equals less borrowing. This presentation will review the types of options available, along with tips on applying. It will also offer samples of fun scholarship options to get you started. We’ll then review what to do about the balances that might be left over in order to make affordable higher education decisions. Join Linda Pacewicz and Dan Wray from Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA ) for an hour of detailed information on this topic.
