Career Day!
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
Thanks to all the parents and community members who presented during Career Day last Wednesday and to Mrs. Spoales for organizing this event. Students loved hearing and learning about all the various and interesting jobs held by our presenters. We truly appreciate the time you took to share your careers.
We were so pleased to see many of our parent volunteers join us for breakfast this morning to celebrate your involvement in school activities, events, and much more during the school year. We are so thankful for your partnership, and we appreciate all you have done for the students, staff, and school community.
We would like to congratulate Amishi Rajale in 5th grade and Ayyan Mankad and Fariq Molla in 4th grade (pictured above) who were the winners of our Math Olympiad contest this year. All three students scored in the top 10% from approximately 90,000 participants worldwide! Congratulations to all of our mathletes this year who showed excellent problem solving skills.
MCPS recently completed the testing of drinking water outlets within the school building to check for any elevated levels of lead concentrations. Please see the community letter from the county environmental team leader and the report of the findings linked below. Cedar Grove had one faucet with elevated levels and has since been shut down for mitigation actions.
We would like to express our thanks to the 2023-2024 PTA Board Officers, and special thanks to Kavita Patel (President) and Anna Bieniek (Secretary) for their past service and dedication to the Cedar Grove community. Congratulations to our newly elected Board members for the 2024-2025 school year.
Please join us in thanking our Cedar Grove staff who have supported our school and community as they pursue other opportunities for the 2024-2025 school year or in their personal lives. We would like to extend well wishes to:
Mrs. Laura Davis- First Grade Teacher, Retirement
Mr. Tracy Greene, Building Services Assistant Manager, Retirement
Mrs. April Thurn- Staff Development Teacher, Retirement

Our End of Year Bash is this evening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. We hope you will join us to enjoy some time together as the school year is drawing to a close. In addition, the Book Fair will be open, so please take a moment to stop and shop. Many thanks to the PTA and chairpersons for organizing both events!
Have a wonderful weekend!

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
Updates have been made to the June/Summer Media Monthly, which include the amazing new books that will be available next year, thanks to the PTA and Book Fair! The Summer Reading program for incoming Kindergartners through sixth graders is linked to the media monthly, as well. Please sign up your students for the MCPL reading program and help the MCPL donate funds to our parks (a very green thing to do which you know we love at Cedar Grove!). I will continue to update this particular media monthly throughout the summer, so check in every once in a while. Once the August dates are set, those will be available in the media monthly, too. Have a wonderful weekend!
Art, Music, and PE Newsletter
