Go Dragons! Go Lions! Eat 'em up Tigers!
Greetings Webber Elementary Students and Parents,
I witnessed the first frost of the year on Wednesday morning, just a faint layer of ice coating surfaces in select locations near the district boundary. Leaves are transforming into a kaleidoscope of colors, and each gust of wind is bringing more of them to the ground and into our yards. The squirrels are busy, transporting acorns and walnuts, stockpiling a cache for the lean times ahead. It's fall - my personal favorite - and an amazing time of year. I hope you are taking advantage of all that it offers.
This week has been very energized here at Webber with many students really getting into the spirit. For example, Mrs. Pearson's DK Class rocked the "Superhero" theme. Truly, throughout the building, it is a joy to see the comradery and togetherness. That's what homecoming is all about. I've seen plenty of superheroes during these first few months of the school year. Our staff, students, and parents have been extraordinarily awesome. Keep up the great work!
Yesterday, the district sent out reminders regarding sporting events at Dragon Stadium. Varsity football games tend to be a community event that attract a large number of people. Tonight's Homecoming game against the Clarkston Wolves will be epic! Be advised that elementary-aged children must be accompanied by an adult for entry. In addition, there are restrictions on bags and purses. Spectators are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.
We have a variety of events coming up soon, including Trunk or Treat, Halloween, and Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please review this week's edition of our newsletter for more information. Additional details will be provided in the coming weeks.
It would be appropriate for students to rep gear from one of our local sports teams on Monday. Certainly, I hope that all three are victorious this weekend!

Halloween Activities
Candy Drive
PTO is at 75% of their goal to support a free Trunk or Treat event. We need your help!
- Challenge: Fill the Candy Monster “Rumbles” with 250 pounds of candy by Monday, October 21.
- Collection cans will be at the main entrance and bus drop off loop. Donating one bag of candy is all that is needed.
- Students may earn Halloween music at lunches and recess if our goal is achieved!
- Other items (trinkets, stickers, allergy-friendly candy) would be greatly appreciated. These can be delivered directly to the main office (rather than the collection can).
Trunk or Treat
October 24, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Friendship Park.
- The event is free for Webber students and families.
- For the event to be successful, our goal is to have 30 decorated trunks.
- If your family would like to register, volunteering to decorate a trunk and distribute candy, please sign up at the link provided: Webber 2024 Trunk or Treat Decoration Sign-Up
- Trunks do not need to supply their own candy.
- Voting for decorated trunks will include three categories: Creepiest Creation, Wickedly Original, and Webber’s Choice Award.
Halloween Parade and Parties October 31 (Half Day)
Halloween parties and celebrations take place on Thursday October 31st. Individual teachers have shared opportunities to sign up or assist with classroom celebrations. The Halloween Parade will take place at 9:30 a.m. While these are exciting for Webber and our students, I would like to take a moment to remind everyone of the parameters and protocol for costumes to ensure safety and fun:
- Masks are allowed; however, anything that is 'scary or gory' may not be worn. A good rule of thumb is if you question the mask as a parent, please do not allow your child to bring the mask to school.
- Pretend weapons and sharp objects of any kind are not allowed.
- Costumes may be worn to school or students may change into their costume prior to the parade and/or classroom party (unless otherwise directed by your child's classroom teacher).
- For the safety of our students, parents who decide to join in the costume fun at the parade should make sure their face can be seen at all times (no masks).
- Parents who have undergone iChat procedures and are volunteering must check-in at the front desk / main office for a visitor badge.
- Our costume parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the Webber playground. Families are welcome to join us outside for the costume parade. The best viewing areas will be on the playground grassy area, along the perimeter walking path.
- All students will be returning to their classrooms at the conclusion of the parade.
Parents wishing to attend the Halloween parade are asked to line up outside starting no earlier than 9:15 a.m. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. inside the school and we will transition outside and travel along the playground route to allow for parent viewing. I’ll send more details regarding parking and a map of the parade route in the coming weeks. Half day, students are being dismissed at 12:05 p.m.

Staff Recognition - Distinguished Dragon
Throughout the school year, if you would like to recognize a staff member from Webber, we encourage you to submit a Distinguished Dragon nomination. The intent of the Distinguished Dragon program is to ensure that staff members who go above and beyond their regular duties are appreciated. The additional effort or support can range from helping an individual to helping a group or any effort that seems worthy of praise.
The staff member can be nominated by a student, parent, community member or a colleague by completing the form at LakeOrionSchools.org/DistinguishedDragon. We ask for the submitter's name and contact information to follow up with specific questions if necessary. Please make sure to select the appropriate school/department form so the message is routed in the proper direction.
Please complete the form entirely so the individual can be appropriately honored for their contributions.
