We are so looking forward to hosting all the grandparents and grandfriends next Friday, February 21. Please have all RSVP's in as soon as possible!
This cherished event is such a sweet way to showcase your children and our school. We are planning on having a full house and are looking for volunteers to bring finger food items (ideas and suggestions can be found on the signup sheet) and to be onsite during the event handling traffic flow, logistics, photos and hospitality. Please sign up with the link below.
Grandparents' Day Volunteer Sign-Ups
As you all know, parking is limited. Please drop grandparents/friends off with your students in the morning, if you are able, so they don't have to park far from school and walk in.
Please note that we will be offering times for photos with grandparents/grandfriends and student throughout the day, but we do hope that grandparents will take the first moments on campus getting a photo. If you can help remind our older friends to get a photo first thing, that would be most helpful! Thank you!

Blue Heron Class - 7th Grade
Greetings to Everyone and Happy Snow Time!
So much has happened in the 7th grade since last we checked in. The students enjoyed a special block on the masters of the Italian Renaissance, complete with beautiful drawings and Main Lesson Book essays.
We’ve finished a major block on World Geography that included Central and South America, and the huge, diverse continent of Africa. The students are currently researching a specific topic from Africa and creating individual slide shows with speeches that will be presented this week. (These reports are part of a series of individual projects that flow through the grades. They’ve included shelter projects in 3rd grade, animal reports in 4th and much more, with at least one per year. The culminating moment will be the combination of 8th grade projects and graduation speeches, which happen next year for the Blue Heron Class.)
If you’ve been in the lobby lately, you may have heard dance music coming from Pine Hall where the 7th Graders have been learning ballroom dance as part of Games class. Thank you, Ms. Glatte for facilitating this great curriculum.
Meanwhile, our current Main Lesson block is Chemistry. We are observing small, controlled examples of combustion and will soon move toward the pH Scale and the study of Acids and Bases. There’s a lot happening!
We will see you soon, and Happy Valentines Day.
❤️Mr. Beech
Our community classifieds are posted as a service to our Siskiyou School families and our broader community. If you would like to include something in the classifieds, email your text (a few lines in length) or an image file (png or jpg only), to kristin.beers@siskiyouschool.org no later than Monday by 3:00 pm. We may edit it for space purposes. Classifieds are included for two weeks, require a break for a week, and then can be renewed upon request.
Chess Club Update and Session 2:
Good afternoon everyone! As we move into our 2nd Session this week, I wanted to give a brief summary of some of the topics covered in Session 1 as well as dates for the next two months.
In the four January classes we focused a lot on the basics of the opening game; we talked about good and bad moves for each piece; reviewed all of the rules, including the more obscure ones like En Passant; learned the difference between exchanges and sacrifices; began our work with tactics (Forks, Sacrifices, Skewers); began looking at end game patterns, such as two Queen finishes and Rook/King finishes; and always to begin each class, best move puzzles.
Session 2 begins this Friday, February 14th, followed by the 21st, 28th, March 7th, and 21st (no class the 14th).
The full session is $75. All the other details will stay the same: meet from 12:30-1:45 in the Math Room (until OBOB is finished), and pack an extra snack/lunch.
Please email if your child is planning to attend or if you have any additional questions,
dustin.monda@siskiyouschool.org
Thank you, Mr. Monda.
