WHPE Update August, 2022
"Reach Everyone"
Greetings,
As we move into the last unofficial month of summer, we continue making plans for the next school year. Our ability to make those plans initially came from the training we received. Through time, we melded that training with experience to become astute decision-makers for our classrooms.
Training we received may have taken place in classrooms, field experiences, or discussions. Regardless of the place or form of the training, there was someone directing the training. That individual also likely took time to have individual conversations with us, which may have had even more impact on our professional preparation than did formal instruction.
The impact a person had on us may also have come once we had a teaching position or after we joined WHPE. It may have been a colleague who took us under their wing to help guide us. It may have been a WHPE member we met and networked with who influenced how we taught.
Now is the Time
Regardless of when or how a person impacted your life, now is the time to show your appreciation. Members can say thank you to influential persons in their life during the month of August through the Honor-a-Colleague campaign. Honoring a colleague is an honorable way to demonstrate your appreciation and publicly say, “This person impacted my life and they deserve to be recognized!” We all know individuals who have played significant roles in our lives. Now is the time to honor these folks.
Specific information on the Honor-a-Colleague campaign is below in the first section. Who should you honor? Who was influential in your professional life?
Best wishes for an enjoyable August!

Reach Everyone
WHPE’s 125th Anniversary - Honor-a-Colleague Campaign
In tribute to those who have served as professional leaders, mentors, and friends, WHPE challenges members to recognize one or more such members with a $10/honoree donation. Names of both honoree and sponsor will be published in our digital 125th Anniversary Program along with the 2023 Winter edition of the WHPE Newsletter. Sponsors will receive a Certificate of Appreciation for being part of this special campaign. During the 100th Anniversary Celebration in 1997, over 200 WAHPERD/WHPE members were honored. Let’s surpass that number for the 125th Celebration and recognize deserving colleagues both past and present.
Members can submit the sign-up form with payment to the WHPE Office by September 1, 2022. WHPE 125th Anniversary sign up.docx.

FREE! Virtual Compassion Resilience Facilitator Training starting August 16th
Now, more than ever, educators may be feeling burnout and compassion fatigue. However, with the current challenges comes an opportunity to lead the work of building a compassionate school culture. This includes strengthening individual resilience skills such as having realistic expectations and setting healthy boundaries, while also examining the aspects of the work environment that drive staff fatigue. Building a compassionate staff culture is an effective way to retain staff and create sustainability in your school mental health system. Participants will learn how to plan for toolkit implementation in their school/district and to facilitate circle discussions. Interested schools or districts are encouraged to send TEAMS of 6 people. Questions can be directed to Katharine Reid, kreid@cesa4.k12.wi.us. There are a limited number of spots!
