Cole Miners' Dig
February 14, 2025
Principal's Notes
We made it to February break! It's been a strong six weeks of learning at Cole School! We have all been working so hard so this break is well deserved. We hope you all enjoy a wonderful week of time with family and friends doing whatever fills your soul in a joyful way!
Connections groups met on Monday to listen to The Bad Seed by Jory John to kick off our focus on the Habit of Mind - Thinking About Your Thinking (Metacognition). Kids love Jory John's books - ask your child about the story and what it means to think about their own thinking.
5th grade students had a great time at the Museum of Science on Monday! They toured the Museum and saw Deep Sky in the Omni Theater to reinforce their learning of the Earth and Space Sciences standards. Thank you to the PTO and families for funding the field trip and transportation costs!
Many thanks to the Norwell Education Foundation for coordinating the "Roses are red, violets are blue, how sweet it is to be taught by you!" fundraiser. Staff members were tickled pink to receive beautiful roses from so many students and families! Thank you for your kindness!
Norwell High School Peer Educators visited 4th and 5th grade classes on Wednesday to teach a lesson on resisting direct and indirect peer pressure. See if your 4th or 5th grader can share a few takeaways about the lesson with you.
The 2025-2026 school calendar has been adopted by School Committee and can be found below.
Students in grades 3-5 are encouraged to participate in the STEAM Night Science Fair on Thursday, March 6th. Check out the details included in the attached document below!

Specialists' Scoop
This week students had numerous cardiovascular exercise opportunities traveling through the Jungle Obstacle Course! Using their imagination and self control, students climbed over the waterfall, swung over the crazy chickens using a rope, rode the turtles, climbed over the mountain, worked their way through the bamboo forest while avoiding the lions and hyenas and rolled over the fallen tree. The Jungle Obstacle Course has been a fun Cole School tradition.

In Oscar Wilde's comedic masterpiece, "The Importance of Being Earnest," two charming bachelors, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, make a habit of using fictitious names to escape their social obligations.
Come join the NHS Fourth Wall Players for a night of laughter and clever repartees—because in the world of Wilde, being earnest has never been so entertaining!
The show’s run time is 40 mins and the whole performance will likely be a one hour experience.
