SPRING 2025 Mid-Semester Reminders

Course Instructors, when you receive the notice for Accommodations, you may also use that same link to also upload test/exams. In addition, when students schedule an exam with our office, an email is sent to you to confirm the date & time of the exam. These are 2 ways to provide testing materials/instructions to the Disability Services Office.

When the student is required to take the exam in ALEKS or Laulima, please include any login information or passwords in the “Instructor Info” tab. We ask that you utilize our software to ensure that a copy of the exam is available for the student on their scheduled day of testing.

We ask that instructors submit tests 72 hours prior to the test date. We also ask students to reserve a spot by scheduling themselves for the testing period (also 72 hours prior).

No longer the KI Program, our new name went into effect on July 1, 2021. Please adjust your course syllabus/communications to indicate this change (if you haven’t done so already).

Leeward’s Disability Services Office is the only approved entity on campus to verify a student’s disability and determine appropriate Accommodation(s). When you receive official email notification from leedso@hawaii.edu – you know the student has gone through Leeward’s process for addressing this matter according to the ADA and Section 504.

Students may be directed to our website at https://www.leeward.hawaii.edu/dso in order to self-identify as having a disability. While this option is available to students at any time during the semester, Accommodations are not retroactive. If a student reveals to you at any time that they have a disability and that they need accommodation, please refer them to the Disability Services Office (DSO). This will protect you from acting "on behalf" of the College. Instructions for getting started are included in the following pdf.

Please refrain from arranging or negotiating Accommodations directly with the student. If you feel an Accommodation indicated in the notice you receive is not appropriate, please contact the Disability Services Office at (808) 455- 0421 or leedso@hawaii.edu.

Since our decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, we look forward to discussing/exploring the intersection of your course design and the particular barriers experienced by the student.
