Message from the Principal
Dear Algonquin Lakes Elementary Families,
This message is repeated from before Thanksgiving
As the weather gets colder and winter sets in, we want to remind everyone to check the forecast each morning and send your child to school dressed appropriately for the conditions. In order for students to fully enjoy outdoor recess and play in the snow, they must have the following gear:
- Snow boots
- Snow pants
- Warm hats
- Gloves or mittens
Students without these items will be asked to stay on the blacktop area during recess. We want all of our students to enjoy their time outside, so please make sure they are dressed warmly and ready for the winter weather. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep our students safe and comfortable!
As we head into the holiday season, I encourage everyone to take time to rest, recharge, and reflect on the many things we have to be thankful for. I am grateful for our hardworking students, dedicated teachers, and the support of our amazing families. Together, we continue to make ALES a special place for learning and growth.
Wishing you all a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving break!
Thank you all for your continued support, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Kindest Regards,
Marilynn (Smith) Jankovich
Principal, Algonquin Lakes Elementary
Dear ALES Families,
I am excited to share that Algonquin Lakes Elementary School implements a Mathematics and Reading program called i-Ready.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
What can I do to help?
Each grade level sets a goal for how many Reading and Math i-Ready lessons should be completed through out the year. Please encourage your child to complete their i-Read lessons at home. All students that complete the target number of i-Ready lessons by December 18th will participate in an academic celebration on December 20th. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you need more information.
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
· Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
· Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
· Try not to worry about questions to which they do not know the answers—remind them that it is expected that they will only get about half of the questions correct.
· Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
What happens next?
The i-Ready Diagnostic will provide results that help me identify your child’s strengths and determine next steps for instruction. I look forward to sharing these results with you throughout the year and providing a learning experience that will engage your child while teaching important skills and concepts.
If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
As always, thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning!
