Blaze Pizza Fundraiser
Our 6th grade students are fundraising money to attend Science Camp in February. Please help support them by participating in fundraising events. First up is Blaze Pizza. 25% of your purchase goes to our 6th grade class. Details are below. You will also receive a copy of the flyer that can be brought in when you make your purchase.
If your family isn't interested in Blaze pizza on Thursday night you can still help! Please post this on your social media pages for family and friends to participate, pass out copies of the flyer at work, or send flyers to friends or family.
We appreciate any and all support!
Celebrating Culture
This year at Nichols we are celebrating the carious communities within our school. This October 29th-November 1st we will have a Day of the Dead altar. The Day of the Dead is a celebration of life for those who are no longer here with us. The indigenous communities in Mexico have been celebrating the Day of the Dead since pre Hispanic times. We welcome students to bring in a picture of a loved one, friend, family or pet to add to the altar. Please label the picture with your student's name, classroom teacher, and room number and send it in by October 18th.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Spelling Bee
We are excited to announce that your child’s/children’s school is having a spelling bee for students grades 4th through 6th. The Spelling Bee is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their spelling skills and compete in a friendly and encouraging environment. Participants will be tested on their ability to spell a variety of words; the event will include several rounds. The competition aims to foster a love of language and promote academic excellence. Classroom spelling bees will take place this week. The Nichols Spelling Bee will take place on October 18th. The winner of each school site will go on to the district wide spelling bee (Stockton 11/7 and Lodi 11/8). We encourage you to click on the link below for rules and practice lists.

Safety
Safety is Our First Priority
Some of our safety measures include:
- All gates remain locked. We are scheduled to have new gates installed this yea
- All visitors must be checked in at the office
- Security cameras in use
- Classrooms locked throughout the day
- Any time gates need to be open there is a staff member present
- All teachers have radios
- IDs are required to pick up students
- We work very hard to know our families. You may notice that our staff has consistent morning and afternoon duties to help us recognize our students and families.
- Fingerprints required for volunteers
- Regularly scheduled drills to review processes and ensure students and staff know expectations.
Lockdowns
During a lockdown, the safety of our students and staff is our absolute top priority. In an active situation, you can expect that the Nichols administrative team will immediately focus on securing the safety of everyone on campus. Only after we have ensured their safety will we work to update families via ClassDojo and Blackboard Connect. Our goal is to keep you informed as quickly as possible, but please understand that our priority will always be to protect your children first.
This week instead of practicing a schoolwide lockdown drill, classes will be practicing a lock down drill in their classrooms alone. We made this decision to keep stress levels low after the events last week but also to allow good discussion and lower students fear. We will not be using the lockdown drill tone during this time. Again, I want this to be a time that students are able to practice is a low stress format and have time to ask questions about things like "What do I do if I am in the bathroom or at recess during a drill?"
Communication During a Lockdown
We understand that this can be challenging, as it may mean that we are unable to respond to calls or messages right away. Rest assured, we will provide updates as soon as we can safely do so. While we work to ensure the safety of your children, we ask that families wait for official communication from us rather than posting requests for information on social media.
Please remember that we are here to protect and support your children. As soon as it is safe to do so, we will update you with all relevant details.
If you need help getting yourself connected on ClassDojo or making sure you are receiving Blackboard connect messages please call the office.
If you have any questions or concerns please set up a meeting with me by calling the office or emailing me at lstreeter@lodiusd.net
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
