First Grade
As we begin this science unit, students are learning some basic facts about the Earth, moon, sun, and stars!
Students have learned that the Earth moves around the sun, that the sun is the closest star to earth, that the moon reflects the light of the sun (it doesn't make its own light!) and that gravity not only keeps us from floating away into space it also keeps the earth orbiting around the sun.
We are also learning to recognize the pattern of the phases of the moon (New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, Last Quarter) and some students have taken home a Moon Observation Journal as a fun end of year activity.

Counselor's Corner
Counseling Office Needs
The counseling department will have an additional office at the 6-8 campus next year. Ms. Callahan and Ms. Kennedy are in search of a futon, comfy chair, and fish tank or water fountain to re-create our counseling space in the new building. If you have one of these items (or another that you think might be useful) in good condition you'd be willing to donate, please contact the counselors at extension 325 or via email to discuss if it would work for our space. We can provide a donation receipt for your taxes.
Counseling Advisory Committee
If you volunteered to be a part of the counseling advisory committee, be on the lookout for an invitation to our first meeting! We are excited to discuss plans and get parent input on priorities for next year. If you have not signed up to be a part of the counseling advisory committee but would like more information about it, please contact the counselors.
Food Pantry Clear-Out
The Kestrel Heights Food Pantry needs to be cleared out before summer, and we just found more canned goods! If your family is in need, please contact Mrs. Kennedy or Mrs. Callahan. We can provide boxes of food from our pantry on a first-come, first-served basis.
