Dear PT Schools Families,
Welcome back! We are gearing up to start the new school year. This summer I enjoyed spending time with my husband Matt and our dog Walter at our local beaches, parks and forests. I hope you found time to rest, play and be with friends and family.
I am looking forward to this new year. Students will be learning from and improving our community through place-based learning projects. Our social studies teachers will be teaching with brand new textbooks. We will be gathering input from the community on facility upgrades for our Port Townsend High School campus and the OCEAN School. And we will continue to host family events at all four of our schools throughout the year.
We will be sending out information in newsletters like this one as well as posting on our District Facebook and Instagram pages. I hope you will follow along! Please reach out if you ever have questions.
One important way to stay connected is to sign up to receive text messages. We use the SchoolMessenger platform to text families important safety notifications and weather closure announcements. This is optional but if you would like to sign up, you can text the letter Y or Yes to 67587 or see the flier below.
I love seeing our families in person! I hope you can make it to one of our Back-to-School events next week. If you’d like to volunteer for field trips or in the classroom, please sign up on our website here. Volunteer applications are good for two years so please renew if it’s been awhile.
Please read on for information about new bus and walking routes, breakfast and lunch menus and next week's Community AI workshop!
See you soon,
Dr. Linda Rosenbury
PT Schools Superintendent
My dog Walter had a great summer too!
NEW BUS ROUTES
All bus routes have been updated this year for efficiency. These new routes make use of our community walking paths, trails, and sidewalks. Please follow the steps below to determine your student's bus number and pick up/drop off time as it may have changed.
Visit the InfoFinder map and enter your street address to identify the closest bus stop and the corresponding bus number.
Visit our Transportation page, select Bus Routes and click on the pdf of the bus number for your stop.
Review the pick up and drop off times and please have your student at the stop a few minutes before the pick up time. Here are some safety tips.
Reach out to Kristin Thibeault in Transportation at (360) 302-5811 or kthibeault@ptschools.org with any questions.
WALKING ROUTES
If your student is able to walk or bike to school, here are some maps of routes for families who live by the schools. Click on the image to make it larger. And look out for the ReCyclery Bike Bus starting up again later this year!
FOOD SERVICES & GARDEN UPDATES
The Food Services department will be posting breakfast and lunch menus every Friday for the following week. You can find them on our website under Food Services, click on Menus. Our hard working staff and volunteers received more accolades for our Farm-to-School and scratch cooking program this summer. Read quotes from our students and see photos of our gardens in this piece in the Seattle Times! Congratulations to our Garden team on winning 60 blue ribbons in AG entries at the Jefferson County Fair!
New! AI COMMUNITY WORKSHOP
We have an exciting free Community Workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education hosted by Jeff Utecht, who is working with our teachers on using AI to support students and families. We hope you will join us on Thursday, August 29th from 6:30 - 8 pm in the Salish Coast Commons. Please RSVP to let us know if you’d like language interpretation and/or childcare.
