San Marcos CISD
STEAM FAIR
San Marcos CISD hosted our annual STEAM Fair on Saturday, April 1, where hundreds took part in a day full of art, music, and interactive exhibits. In collaboration with the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce, SMCISD was able to offer more than 70 interactive exhibits at the fair. A planetarium, Zoomagination animal shows, a Circuit of the Americas race car, and robots highlighted the day’s events. The STEAM Fair gave kids and parents an opportunity to explore future STEAM careers through fun games and activities. Round of applause for all nineteen musical and dance performances from students across San Marcos CISD's Fine Arts programs!
Strikers are STEAMing with Talent
The Mighty Mendez Strikers hosted their annual STEAM night on Thursday, March 30. Students and staff participated in interactive stations and activities such as Lego mazes, build your own planet, and coding robots. Congratulations to the first-graders and music teacher, Mr. Diaz, for swarming into the audiences hearts with their Bugs Musical performance.
San Marcos CISD Bond 2023 Overview
Today, San Marcos CISD is home to 8,400 students and is supported by over 1,300 teachers and staff, across 12 campuses. San Marcos CISD is dedicated to excellence in education and with your support of the 2023 Bond, we will be better prepared for the next generation of Rattlers to come.
After a comprehensive review and with the input of parents, students, teachers and community members, the SMCISD Board of Trustees voted to place a $166 million dollar bond referendum, consisting of FOUR propositions on the 2023 May ballot. Rattlers Disrupt Rocket Launch
The San Marcos Rattler baseball team improved to to 6-1 in district play on Friday, March 31, with a 10-0 win on First Responders Night, over the Judson Rockets! Thank you to all our First Responders! We are so grateful for the work you do in our community and beyond.
We Are The Champions – Purple Reign
Our San Marcos High School Diamond Line were named Grand National Champions after sweeping the competition at the HTEDance National Dance Team Championship on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. The Diamond Line won multiple awards: Grand Champion Officers, Grand Champion Team, Tops in Texas and Best of the Day. Congratulations to the Diamond Line and Coach Knight on a successful competition season! Next up, Spring Show – we cannot wait!
Miller Track & Field
Congratulations to Miller Track and Field on an impressive season. For the fourth consecutive year, our Miller Middle School 8th Grade Girls Track & Field team won the district championship. The 7th grade girls also claimed the district title. Rallying from a 100-point deficit, the 7th grade boys narrowly missed out on being district champions by .5 points. The 8th grade boys earned a 3rd place finish, marking a strong improvement from last season.

Diving into Dissection
De Zavala 5th graders are currently studying organisms, their specific functions and how both components contribute to survival. Before rolling up their sleeves, the Diamonds reviewed lab etiquette and safety measures. Ms. Beck led the 5th grade Diamonds in their first ever dissection of squids. Students were paired up and together, they labeled the squid's anatomy and began the dissection.
FFA Competes at Area
Our SMHS FFA Career Development Events teams competed at the Area VII CDE Contest at Texas A&M on April 1. The Entomology team earned 1st in District and 8th in Area. Floriculture received 5th in district and 14th in area. Our Horse Evaluation came in 2nd in District and 15th in Area. The Vet Science team earned 3rd in District and 20th in Area. Congratulations to our FFA CDE teams for their hard work!
Champions Showcase
Bowie Champions showed off their skills at SPARK Fair Family Night on Thursday, March 30. The night was filled with performances, food, and fun. Students from Balie Folklorico, Cheer, Ribbon Twirling, and Express Yourself club performed in front of their friends and family. Each club also had their own showcase, and science fair projects were on display.
Camp Crockett
Crockett Superstars and their families went to camp on Friday, March 31, for an evening of fun-filled activities. Campers were able to take part in a variety of activities such as tug-of-war, archery, fishing, three-legged races, “swimming races,” and crafts highlighted the event. Campers were placed in cabins and competed in each event to earn points for their team.
Join us on Friday, April 7, at San Marcos High School for CPR, AED and First Aid Training. This will take place from 9 AM-12 PM and is open to all SMCISD staff, students (13-plus) and parents. How SWEEP It Is
Miller Middle School's orchestra brought home a Sweepstakes award from the UIL Concert & Sight-reading contest on Wednesday, March 29. Under the direction of Ms. Corrine Bean, the orchestra earned straight ones. We are proud of our Miller orchestra!
All Jazzed Up
Congratulations to our Miller Middle School’s Jazz Band I which took home first place at the 55th annual Texas A&M-Kingsville Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 25. This is the second consecutive year the jazz band has taken home the competition's top prize. Alongside Jazz Band I’s first-place honor, several members were selected to the Judge’s All-Star Big Band and were given the All-Star Big Band Award: Kalen Shanks, alto saxophone; Vicente Esquivel, tenor saxophone; Eve Prince, tenor saxophone; Riley Sivilay, trumpet; Jordynn Grimes, trombone; and Kiefer Hinton, vibes.
Shoes for San Marcos
Rack Room Shoes gave a generous donation to San Marcos CISD. The shoe store donated funds for SMCISD to provide shoes for students. Thank you, Rack Room Shoes!

Let's hear it for our Coordinator of CTE! Thank you Mr. Odam for being the biggest advocate for our Rattler CTE programs and the supporting staff. The STEAM Fair is a huge event to plan, organize and host and you do it with such precision. San Marcos CISD is grateful for your leadership!
