Prairie Teacher of the Year: Liz Jenkins
Congratulations to our Prairie Teacher of the Year!! Liz Jenkins!! One of the nominations she received says it all: "She is everything a teacher should be- kind, fun, a natural leader, sweet and easy to connect with (for both kids and parents). Mrs. Jenkins was our son’s kindergarten teacher last year and he could not have had a better year or experience starting out in “big kid” school. Mrs. Jenkins makes all the kids feel so loved and valued. They are so comfortable with her which then makes it easy for them to learn in a traditional classroom setting (something some kids may not have had before). I truly believe teachers are a gift, especially kindergarten teachers. I believe our son has a strong foundation at his school because of her help and love she pours into every student. Shawnee Mission School District and Prairie are lucky to have her."
End of Year Learning Benchmarks
During the month of May, all students are completing the end of the year Acadience and MAP benchmark assessments for reading and math. We anticipate great growth from the fall to the spring! Your child's individual scores will be communicated through the classroom teacher and posted in Skyward. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

5/09: Field Day 2025
Prairie Field Day 2025 is coming up soon! The 6th graders are in charge of running the activities, but we need a parent volunteer at each station to help ensure things run smoothly. Please Click HERE to sign up to volunteer.
Details about the day:
- Morning Field Day: K-2
- Afternoon Field Day: 3rd-5th
- Volunteers are grilling hotdogs to make the day even more special! Students will eat in the garden with their teachers. This is part of our school lunch program, so be sure to have funds in your child's account for that day if they choose a grilled hotdog meal. We will also have the PB & J and yogurt options as usual on this day.
- Students need to bring a beach towel for a special movie in the gym for a portion of the day.
5/17: Prairie Fun Run
Tickets are on sale for the annual Fun Run and Pancake Breakfast. The Fun Run features a 1-mile course beginning and ending at Prairie - with children and families running, jogging, or walking. Strollers are welcome but dogs must remain home. Click here to register by May 4th to get your free T-Shirt!
Grades 3rd-6th will kick us off at 8:30 a.m. while Grades K-2 and any walkers will start at 9:00 a.m. Chris Cakes will be there flipping pancakes from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m.
Run Club is open to all Prairie students who are registered for the Fun Run. Students will meet directly after school in the courtyard and will be lead through games and encouragement to complete laps around the track! You can pick up your sweaty students outside by the track at 4 p.m. Please sign up HERE if your child will attend.
