OLVCS Updates
October 17th, 2024
Dear OLVCS Families,
Fall is upon us, and with that comes varying weather. We send our students out for recess each and every day unless for heavy rain, or bitter cold. Please make sure your child is prepared to enjoy their time outside.
On October 30th we have both the end of the marking period, and school photo day. We will send out the flyers for school photos closer to that date.
Bishop Mark sent the message below to pastors regarding upcoming collections to assist hurricane victims. The Bishop also asked Catholic schools to collect money to benefit relief efforts, as well. He thought students might be willing to donate their spare change, etc. So on that note we will have a Dollar (and maybe more) Dress Down Day on Thursday, October 24th. All proceeds will be forwarded to Catholic Charities.
Make it a Great Day!
Samantha

BISHOP'S MESSAGE
In recent days, our brothers and sisters in the southeastern part of the United States have endured devastation from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. We here in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown stand in solidarity with those individuals and families. I invite the local faithful to join me in praying for them and asking the Lord to give them strength and healing in the challenging days ahead. In a special way, we also remember those who have lost their lives and those who mourn them.
As we see the suffering of the storm victims on the news, I think I speak for everyone in expressing a great desire to help in some way. Therefore, I am asking all parishes in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown to take a special collection to benefit hurricane victims on the weekends of October 12-13, October 19-20, and October 26-27. All contributions to this special collection would be tax deductible. Parishes should forward the proceeds to the diocese, and I will see that those monies are forwarded to agencies such as Catholic Charities USA, which will ensure that the funds are used to help the recovery efforts. At this time, there is no need for items such as food, clothing, or toiletries to be sent to the southern states.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus reminds us that what we do for the least among us, we do for Him. In that spirit, I ask that local parishioners please be generous in the upcoming special collections, and I encourage everyone to keep all those affected by the hurricanes in their thoughts and prayers. May the Lord bless them and those on the front lines who are working hard to provide aid and comfort.
Dress Down Day for Hurricane Relief - October 24th
In support of the Hurricane victims and in conjunction with all diocesan schools; we will have a Dollar (and maybe more) Dress Down Day on October 24th. All proceeds will be sent to the diocese then forwarded to Catholic Charities for hurricane relief.

After losing the first set, they came back and won the match 2-1! It truly was a team effort. The 7th graders won their match 2-0. Congratulations to our 8th Graders Lane Blackstock, Charlotte Knaby, Annie Hyman, Marissa Lucas, Hannah Moritz and Addy Snyder on a fantastic season.

The Crusaders hit the field last week against Belleville, and secured a win 7-1 in a great team effort. The team played hard on Tuesday, but lost the game against Park Forest.

SJCA 2024 Fall Family Retreat - 11/15-11/16
Jordan Langdon of Families of Character, is coming Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy! Jordan is a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience coaching parents and families, a Catholic wife and mom of three from Denver, CO, and the CEO of Families of Character, the "#1 resource for in-home child and family development."
Our Families of Character retreat will be focused on providing valuable tools for you and your spouse to utilize as partners and parents in a cohesive, Catholic family unit. We will intentionally take the time to grow together, prayerfully, to emerge from the weekend as more present, grace-giving, and confident captains of our "family team." We are so excited to share it with you!
As last year, SJCA will host a fall family weekend retreat, which is scheduled for November 15-16, 2024. Complimentary childcare will be provided, as last year, and all meals will be provided as well. The cost is $65 per couple. Sarah Miller, our new Development Assistant here at SJCA, will be organizing the event with me, so if you feel inclined to help volunteer as well as participate with your spouse, please reach out! Sarah's Saint Joe's contact is development@sjcacademy.org. The full agenda for the weekend is attached.
You will see posters for the event at church and in the bulletin soon, but to give you priority, and for more information here's the registration link:
Please let us know if you have any questions. We are looking forward to having you at Saint Joe's this fall!
