SVDP School
February 5, 2021
Hello SVDP Community,
We close out Catholic Schools Week grateful to all our families, faculty, staff, and students. Our faculty and staff wish to thank the Parent Guild for treating us to the coffee cart on Thursday. What a treat and a fond reminder that things will get back to "normal" one day.
Thursday, we hosted our virtual pre-visit with the WCEA/WASC team. They will now review our documentation in preparation of our virtual visit in March.
Please read below for important updates to our progress in reaching our goal of 100% on-campus learning. Continue reading for guidance in selecting your learning preference for Trimester 3.

On-Campus Learning - UPDATE
We will continue with our modified day schedule, pick-up times for all grades will remain the same, even on Wednesdays for K - 4.
We are planning to bring Scenario 1 of our Infection Mitigation Plan to campus beginning March 1st (the opening day of Trimester 3). This means for grades 5 - 8, they will be on campus a minimum of four days a week. We would still operate under a modified school day schedule.

PLANNING AHEAD FOR THE 3RD TRIMESTER
It is time to select your learning preference for Trimester 3 (March 1 – May 28, 2021). We are providing the following information in hopes that it assists you in making the decision that is best for your family. Please read before making your selections via the link below. We completely understand that your decisions for in-person vs. distance learning are personal. We do ask that you consider all factors, including the stability and consistency of your child’s learning environment.
REVISION TO OUR OCTOBER 30TH NEWSLETTER REGARDING ATTENDANCE:
- If you child is slated for in-person learning and has an unexcused absence for any non-medical reason (including quarantine due to travel or house guests), that absence will be marked as an unexcused absence, and your child cannot participate in distance learning. (Effective March 1, 2021)
- If your child has an excused absence for illness, they may participate in distance learning, but they must provide a doctor’s note stating that they are cleared to return and did/did not require a COVID test. If a COVID test is required, you must also provide the results. (Effective Immediately)
RESTATEMENT OF OTHER ATTENDANCE / TRAVEL / QUARANTINE FACTS:
- Our attendance policy remains the same. Whether you are registered for in-person or distance learning, if your child is absent because of an illness or medical appointment, that is counted as an excused absence. If your child is absent due to travel, that is counted as an unexcused absence.
- The state regulates that if a student is absent for 20 or more days in a trimester, the school cannot post/release grades for them.
- If your child is quarantining to follow the advised protocol because they have traveled or you are welcoming house guests, that will count as an unexcused absence.
- If your child is quarantining because the health department has notified you that your child has potentially been in contact with a positive case or your child has received a positive result, their quarantine will be counted as excused and your child is encouraged to participate in distance learning. Documentation from SFDPH stating the close contact / positive result is required.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS TO CONSIDER:
- Your commitment to distance or in-person learning is a commitment for the full trimester (March 1 – May 28, 2021).
- We CANNOT allow students to move in and out of formats.
- We are planning to be in Scenario 1 of our Infection Mitigation Plan on March 1.
- We have communicated with the health department and at this time, they are unable to guide us in making decisions about distance learning around our Easter Break. Please make your plans assuming we will be in-person before and after the break as scheduled.
- Currently, California provided the following provisions for travel, and we have to assume they will still be in effect during our Easter Break:
Californians who travel outside the state or the country must quarantine for 10 days upon their return to California.
Visitors to California from other states and countries must also quarantine for 10 days upon their entry into California.
- Our teachers must plan their lessons, small groups, and one-on-one work based on who they believe will be in the classroom and online. Planning has taken on a whole new level of complexity, and our teachers are very dedicated to bringing their best to your students every day.
- Ms. Pini is always happy to work with families with specific circumstances. Please reach out anytime.

A Message from the San Francisco Department of Public Health
Even though our beloved 49ers missed the playoffs this year, San Francisco still has a lot riding on the big game this Sunday. COVID-19 remains widespread in our city and we must continue to take precautions. If we each do our part, we can help prevent making Super Bowl Sunday a Super-spreader event.
- Celebrate by watching the game at home with people you already live with
- Avoid indoor gatherings with people outside of your household
- Limit outdoor gatherings to no more than 12 people from 3 different households
- Maintain proper social distancing as much as possible
- Remember to wear a face covering if you leave home
- Face coverings may be removed briefly outdoors only while eating or drinking.
- Do not remove face coverings when outside your home and indoors.
- Keep the celebration local
- Avoid any non-essential travel
- If travel outside the Bay Area is unavoidable, follow the mandatory quarantine when returning
- If visiting a local restaurant to enjoy outdoor dining on game day, follow local guidance
- Wear a face covering except when putting food or drink in your mouth
- Limit your table to a max of 6 people from no more than 2 households
- Stay 6 feet apart from anyone outside your household
- Older Adults, those with health risks, and members of their household are urged not to participate in outdoor dining
No matter who you’re rooting for in the Super Bowl, let’s stay safe and support our “home team” -- our family, friends, and neighbors.
