Parenting Corner (Student Info Table)
As you know, we have several ways to share information: this weekly newsletter; SeeSaw; Schoolmessenger; Facebook Page, etc. We also have a student information table located in the foyer with information that is approved by division level leadership but not promoted by RCPS: it is an option for students to pick up and not distributed to every student. The table usually has pamphlets about local sports camps, weekday religious education, art contests, essay contests, and other opportunities for kids. If you would ever like to check it out, please sign in with the main office and have a look!
Parent-Teacher Conference Info
Teachers sent home parent-teacher conference sign up sheets with students today. Please sign up for multiple time slots so we can accommodate everyone who would like to conference. If you do not need to conference with your child’s teacher or you can’t make it on November 4th, please just reach out to your teacher if you’d like an update.

Oct. Week 3: Engineering: Airplane Battles!
Observation: I see airplanes and jet trailers in the sky above my head.
Question: How are airplanes engineered to help them stay in the air?
Problem: Does the airplane design affect how it flies?
Engineering Challenge: Build and test different airplane designs to see which design is the most effective!
Materials:
Paper (regular, construction paper, newspaper, etc)
Scissors
Ruler
Pencil or Pen
Some way to mark the starting point (string, yardstick, etc)
Results:
Which design flew the farthest?
What parts of the design do you think affected the airplane’s ability to fly? How?
Don’t forget to take a picture of your results and submit it to your teacher on SeeSaw!
Conclusion:
Could you make a larger version?
What happens if you use different materials?
What if you attached items to your plane (ie. paperclips, glue dots, etc.) Would it matter where they were placed?
