Quarter 3 (Q3) and Quarter 4 (Q4) grades combine to become the Semester 2 (S2) grade, which will be the final grade shown on a student's transcript. PowerSchool is a great tool for monitoring your student's grades and opening discussions about classwork and overall student success. Download the app to make monitoring grades and attendance easy!

This period is built into our bell schedule (30 min period between 3rd and 4th period, every Wednesday and Thursday). Students have an opportunity to get additional assistance with their assignments or topics in which they are struggling, and they are encouraged to take advantage of this time. Students must visit one of their six teachers’ classrooms. Seats will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Students are not permitted to enter a classroom in which they are not currently enrolled.

Torrance Library – Get live tutoring, homework help, skills building, and FAFSA assistance through Brainfuse HelpNow, covering subjects like math, science, writing, and test prep. (Torrance City residents only). Students need to register for a FREE library card before accessing the Torrance Library resources.

LA County Library – Access free online tutoring for grades K-12, with help in math, science, reading/writing, and test prep from 1 PM to 10 PM. Students need to register for a FREE library card before accessing LA County Library resources.

Khan Academy – Explore free video lessons and practice exercises on a variety of subjects, including math, science, and history, to learn at your own pace.

At the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) CA State Leadership Conference & Students Taking Action through Recognition (STAR) Event our students engaged with real-world issues through projects in nutrition, fashion, entrepreneurship, and more. There were over 700 competitors from all across California in a variety of events related to Family & Consumer Sciences. Our top competitors received multiple scholarships and awards. Each student used their project as a platform to address real-life challenges—from health and sustainability to business innovation—demonstrating their commitment to being responsible, ethical, and globally minded citizens. These events empower students to take action, serve others, and lead change, aligning closely with other schoolwide initiatives like the Seal of Civic Engagement and interdisciplinary programs in environmental stewardship and cultural literacy. We commend these students not only for their awards, but for living out the values of civic responsibility and community impact that we strive to instill in every graduate.

In April, teachers Ms. Leccese and Mr. Watkins scheduled their Health classes to learn CPR & Safety Training in collaboration with Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center and the Torrance Fire Department. Over 120 students were able to receive in-person, expert training in life saving procedures because of this collaboration.

For two days in April, The Japanese American National Museum visited Torrance High School to present lessons on the Japanese-American experience during internment on the home front in World War II. Organized with the help of History TOSA, Melissa Waller, classes brought by Mr. Anwandter, Mr. Comparsi, and Mr. Longley met in the Little Theater for a lesson facilitated by a Historian from the museum. Students analyzed primary source documents, collaborated with classmates, and interacted with the Historian to draw conclusions regarding Japanese-American history.

On May 5, the Latino Culture Club, led by Ms. Blanca Flamenco, visited Torrance Elementary to share the rich cultural traditions of Cinco de Mayo with younger students. Through music, storytelling, and hands-on activities, our high school students engaged with elementary learners to celebrate Mexican heritage and history. This meaningful outreach exemplifies Civic Engagement & Global Citizenship in action, as students not only gave back to their community but also fostered cultural awareness and inclusivity—core values that align with our school’s mission to develop informed, compassionate global citizens.
