Spring Garden Buzz
November 2024
Hello, Spring Garden families, and happy November!
I apologize for the delay in this month's newsletter. I had it almost ready to go last week, and then had a glitch I've never experienced before...and it was lost. It's been a busy week but I got it done...again! :)
November is underway and it is our annual time to check in with you formally for the first time this school year. Report cards will be released on November 18 through the Synergy Parent Vue system; you can access this on your phone through the Parent Vue app, or on your computer through the Parent Vue website. If you haven't activated your account yet, you should have received a letter from the Education Center with your activation key and directions to get started. We will also have a team of teachers ready to help you during conferences. Remember that BASD is no longer printing report cards; you will need to access them through Parent Vue.
Parent/teacher conferences are taking place on November 25 and 26. Signups will be available soon!
Events around town
The BASD website posts flyers about important events -- medical clinics, fun gatherings, giveaways, and all kinds of things to engage and support your family. Check it out!
Thank you!
Matey's pizza sale is on until 11/15
Matey's frozen pizzas go straight from your freezer to the table...and support our kids! Win-win. They will be ready for pickup on 11/25 at the gym. See below for more information.
Lots of great safety updates at SG
You may have noticed some improvements at Spring Garden that are keeping us safe...there is lots to share!
Our playground is now safely fenced and gated all the way from the side of the building at the bus loop, along Linden, and along the back line of the playground area all the way to the solar panels. This was a huge job and we are so thankful that BASD supported us in getting this project done! They even replaced the old fence that was along Linden Street, as well as our old sagging gates. I feel so much safer knowing that we don't have to worry about kids wandering away, or about folks (or animals) entering our playground area while school is in session.
We also now have cameras installed and operational throughout the interior and exterior of our building.
Lastly, we had a very successful offsite evacuation drill and lock-in practice during October. The offsite drill was new to us and it went very well. Lots of thanks to the Bethlehem Police Department for assisting us with this practice -- now we feel ready if we have to leave campus during an emergency!
Families, remember that our monthly safety meetings are open to all. They happen in the library at 8:15 on the second Friday of each month. Our next meeting is Friday, November 8.
All are welcome at our PTO meetings
Come jump around with SG!
School will be closed...
- early dismissal (11:45) on November 25 & 26 for conferences
- no school for Thanksgiving break November 27-December 2
Help PTO treat our teachers during conferences!
Our PTO would like to express thanks to our teachers and staff by providing a SOUPER lunch on November 26. Our teachers have a quick lunch break after your kids head home for their early dismissal, and they jump right into a long afternoon of parent conferences. Please give them energy for this day by bringing in goodies for our PTO-provided lunch! Check the sign up genius to see what we need. Thank you in advance for your generous support of our hard-working teachers!
Scholastic Book Fair
Our kids will have the chance to shop at the book fair in person on November 25 & 26, and online from November 22 to December 5. Watch for more details!
Holiday Shack returns
The SG Holiday Shack is coming back in December! Plans are in the works and we will be reaching out for volunteers. This event lets our kids shop for little gifts for their loved ones. It's an old favorite -- thank you to our PTO for coordinating!
Veterans day at SG
Thank you to Miss Dowches for putting together a celebration on Monday, November 11 for SG family veterans! We are excited to honor our veterans and thank them for their service.
Spring Garden's float wins 1st prize in the Bethlehem Halloween parade!
Did you get to see the incredible work of our SG team on the stellar float they created for the Halloween parade? The judges certainly did, and they awarded us first prize. Our incredibly talented and visionary art teacher, Ms. Bloss, worked with a team of teachers, parents, and kids to put together a truly impressive float showcasing our Spring Garden future Olympians. Complete with live music from Mr. Reilly and our own student horns, it was truly an impressive sight!
Congratulations to Mrs. Redline on winning a BASD Foundation Grant for our kids!
Mrs. Redline, your child's digital literacy teacher, is always seeking out new opportunities she can bring to the library at SG. She attends any training she can find, seeks out items to borrow from county resources, and she often submits successful grants to be funded by the BASD Foundation. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Redline scouting out ways to keep our kids engaged!
Last month, we had a surprise visit from the BASD Foundation to celebrate Mrs. Redline's successful grant proposal. Our kids in grades K-2 will have a new option in the library -- they will be able to listen to stories on a squishable, cuddly box called a Toniebox. Kids can choose a Tonie, put it in the Toniebox, and hear a different story each time. Thank you, Mrs. Redline!
