Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion families,
I hope everyone is well. The end of October has many opportunities for parents and families to connect/engage with our school with the Student Goal Setting Conferences, the Scholastic Book Fair, Día De Los Muertos ,and Trunk or Treat. I know we still need volunteers if you would like to decorate your car trunk and give out candy/treats on Halloween. Please let Jose Luna know as we will have 40 spaces reserved for cars for Trunk or Treat in the Front lot. Also, we need Halloween Peanut Free Candy donations to help give out the treats on Trunk or Treat. A big SHOUT OUT to volunteer parent Cynthia Alvidriz for organizing this year's Book Fair! Please remember to visit the Boof Fair in our Library either before or after your Student-Parent-Teacher conference or this Saturday during Día De Los Muertos.
We need all families to PLEASE complete the Panorama Climate Survey by clicking here on the Survey Link. We will use your feedback to improve our practices at Adelante Selby. RCSD encourages families, students, teachers, staff, and even administrators to complete the Fall survey.
Student Goal Setting Conferences
Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences are here this week. For that reason, we have ALL Super Minimum Days/ Early Dismissal Times: TK:11:30am; Kindergarten 11:35; 1st-5th grades at 11:45am. Teachers have already communicated with parents about the conference schedule sign ups(but if you are unsure email them). The plan is for students to be more actively involved and reflective at the student goal setting parent/teacher conferences. Parents will receive a Family Information Sheet with Next Steps for English Language Arts and Math to help your child academically at home. Here are the Grade Level Links:
- Kindergarten Family Information Next Steps for Math and Reading
- 1st Grade Family Information Next Steps for Math and Reading
- 2nd Grade Family Information Next Steps for Math and Reading
- 3rd Grade Family Information Next Steps for Math and Reading

- 5th Grade Family Information Next Steps for Math and Reading
Scholastic Book Fair!!
Our Scholastic Book Fair is finally here this week and kids are so excited to visit our fair! Your child is scheduled to visit the Book Fair with their classroom
Please, check HERE to see your child’s scheduled visit.
REACH and YMCA will also be bringing students to the Book Fair during the week, for more details please contact Ms Karina & Mr Víctor.
If you would like to help other students in need of a book you can round off your balance at the checkout (parents only) or donate cash in our donation box at the cashier area.
Be on the lookout for “Teacher Wishlist” boxes in the Bookfair. So much hard work from the teachers all year round – gifting a book for your teacher would be a nice gesture.
If you choose to let your child carry cash, please, remind them to keep it safe and only shop for themselves. These rules are reinforced during the Book Fair, but volunteers can not supervise all children. For these reasons we strongly recommend setting up an ewallet!
The Book Fair is open to all families during parent conference week, so come before or after your teacher meeting and don’t forget to join us on Dia de los Muertos @ the Library 11 - 2pm, click here to see the Book Fair schedule.
The Dogman guessing game winner will be announced on Thursday, Oct 26 during Principal’s announcement on Thursday.
We can’t wait to see our students having fun shopping for books this year!
Please Come to the Día de los Muertos Event This Saturday, October 28, 11:00am-2:00pm!
The annual Día de Los Muertos family event will be held this Saturday, October 28th from 11:00am-2:00pm in the school Cafeteria, blue tables, and the playground area. We will have traditional face painting, a performance of "Hard Knock Life" one of the scenes from this year's Musical: "Annie Kids", an After School Dance Club performance, Inflatables/ Bouncy Houses, a tour of classroom altars, and arts and crafts for students to enjoy. The event is free, but there will be yummy food for sale so bring your appetite! Please come! A BIG SHOUT OUT to parent volunteer Kelly Coyne for organizing(and all the other parent volunteers!)!
Trunk or Treat Tuesday, October 31st 2:30-3:45
Trunk or Treat 2023 will be on Tuesday, October 31st from 2:30-3:45pm. Please note the Front Parking Lot will be closed all day so Trunk or Treat volunteers can decorate the trunks of their cars and we can host our event after school. Keep in mind that it is an instructional school day and students must come following dress code. There is an early dismissal that day at 1:25pm. We need your HELP PLEASE with candy donations for Trunk or Treat: Nut free candy only due to allergies. Please bring the candy donations to the office. You will assemble in the main hallways and can wait by the blue picnic tables after school with your child/family. You will then come into the front lot through the black gate by the office to Trunk or Treat in the front parking lot. We need more volunteers if you would like to participate(bring and decorate your car trunk and give out treats), please let Jose Luna know ASAP: jluna@rcsdk8.net .
2023 Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser
The Walk-A-Thon is an annual Unidos PTO school fundraiser taking place on Friday, November 17th. Students will have the opportunity to raise money for their favorite activities including Danny G, Garden, and STEAM by reaching out to family and friends and collecting donations. Each year, a Walk-A-Thon t-shirt is created, class prizes are given and most importantly, students get exercise dancing, skipping, or walking laps to their favorite tunes while parents, faculty, and the Alebrije cheer them on – it’s a great community event!
As part of the Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser activities this year, all students had the opportunity to design the artwork printed on this year’s Walk-A-Thon t-shirt! The winner, as voted on by the students, will be announced soon! Every student will have the opportunity to earn a t-shirt by collecting a donation during their Walk-A-Thon fundraising. Please be on the lookout this week for an email from Unidos and 99Pledges with information on how to collect donations. Thanks in advance for encouraging your child to raise money for our school!

Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
Here are the menus for August(you can use the same links for the September Menu which is not available yet):
