®️ January SEL Trait - Growth Mindset ®️
Good afternoon Riverton families!
Happy Tuesday!
As we embark on this new year, our first theme/SEL trait for 2025 is "Growth Mindset." To me, a growth mindset is about embracing challenges, persisting in the face of failures, and viewing effort as the path to mastery. It also involves active listening, reflection on past beliefs, and being open to new ideas that can collaboratively lead to success. In my second newsletter this month on 1/21 I will expand on how I connect a growth mindset to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his impact on our world.
On an unrelated topic, this year has started with an intense blast of COLD. Please be sure your child(ren) is/are coming to school with a jacket and any other items needed to stay warm. If the real feel temperature is above 32 degrees we will be going outside for recess. Thank you for your support.
With gratitude,
Mr. Zagorski

What's New at Riverton School?
Thank You Palmyra HS Band
Thank you to Mr. Palmer and the Palmyra High School Concert and Marching Bands for their performance prior to the winter recess. Students from Palmyra High School performed pieces from both their winter concert and half time marching band sets.
Did You Know? Riverton Middle School students are eligible to particpate in Palmyra HS Marching Band/Color Guard. Shout out to two of our 8th graders, Wes Cooper & Declan Riley for their participation in the show! Interested? Reach out to Mr. Zagorski for more information.
One Judge, One School (Law Day Program)
Prior to winter recess our 8th grade students participated in One Judge, One School, a Law Day Program. Thank you to Ms. Allen and Ms. Chavez from the Superior Court of New Jersey (Burlington Vicinage) for coordinating this event for our students. Real world connections are an essential piece to learning. In this one day activity, our 8th grade students explored scenarios, problem solved and created solutions using feedback from a Judge and his staff to drive their decision making.
Engineers in Action - Thank you Ms. Wilburn
Today, our 7th grade students were part of an Engineers in Action presentation by Riverton Alumni, Ms. Sophia Wilburn. Ms. Wilburn gave a captivating presentation about her experience building a bridge in the African country, Eswatini. Ms. Wilburn spent six weeks working with a team from Penn State University as well as trained engineers from Eswatini to help a community solve the problem of crossing a water passage that grew significantly during the rain season. Students were able to ask questions and learn more about this real world engineering experience. Ms. Wilburn discussed her role as a project manager and her experiences living in and emersing herself in the Eswatini culture. Thank you to Ms. Allen for coordinating this learning experience for our students.
