Traver Talk
As we transition into the second semester, I want to highlight the importance of attendance for our high school students. Being present at school is not just about fulfilling a requirement- it’s about preparing for the future. As students grow older, their attendance becomes a vital job skill, directly impacting their readiness for the workforce.
We track absences as EX and UX. An EX absence occurs when a parent or guardian notifies the school of a student's absence, while a UX absence is recorded when there is no communication regarding the student's whereabouts. Additionally, we monitor tardies using TY for general tardies and LT for those who arrive more than five minutes late to class. We want to remind our Mustangs that every minute spent in class is valuable, and their commitment to attending school each day is a testament to their dedication to their education.
As we approach Count Day on Wednesday, February 12, we want to emphasize its importance for our school's funding. Accurate attendance on this day is crucial, as it determines the resources our building receives to operate effectively. To encourage participation, we will be raffling off several prizes for any student who is present and on time for the entire school day. Be sure to check out the flyer for more details!
This past week, our Positivity Project lesson focused on perseverance, which aligns perfectly with our goal of improving attendance. We believe that by fostering a culture of determination and resilience, we can motivate our students to prioritize their presence in school.
We look forward to a great second semester with our Mustang students and an exciting Snowcoming week ahead. Let’s work together to make attendance a priority!
Principal's Points
Dear Clio High School Parents,
As we move into our 2nd semester, I felt the need to reach out to give you feedback on the importance of a solution-based mindset. Adopting a solution-based mindset can greatly benefit your child's growth and development in the High School setting. To further support this, I wanted to share some resources and strategies that can help promote a solution-focused mentality in our students, and at home.
Work Ethic: Support a strong work ethic with your student. Attendance, work completion, and consistent effort are all things that your student can control and will directly impact their academic success.
Growth Mindset: Encourage your child to embrace a growth mindset, which is the belief that their abilities and intelligence can be developed through hard work and dedication. This mindset helps students view challenges as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than as obstacles. Grit is developed through commitment to a growth mindset. Again, students of all learning levels and interests have an opportunity to develop their own abilities and skills.
Goal Setting: Teach your child the importance of setting goals and breaking them down into manageable steps. This helps them focus on the solution and take proactive steps towards achieving their objectives. Set short term (turn in all assignments for a week) and long term (perfect attendance for the semester) goals that translate toward achieving success.
Problem-Solving Skills: Help your child develop strong problem-solving skills by encouraging them to think critically, analyze situations, and come up with creative solutions. This can be done through activities such as puzzles, riddles, and brainstorming sessions. Every answer in life cannot be “Googled”.
Positive Self-Talk: Teach your child to replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations. Encourage them to reframe challenges as opportunities and to believe in their ability to find solutions. Don’t allow your student to “stand in their own way”. If they believe, they will achieve.
Role Modeling: Be a positive role model by demonstrating a solution-focused mindset in your own actions and conversations. Show your child how you approach challenges and setbacks with a solution-oriented perspective. Please help stress the importance of your student’s education and the opportunities that will come from their best efforts in the classroom.
Supportive Environment: Foster a supportive environment at home and in school, where mistakes are seen as opportunities for learning and growth. Encourage open communication and provide guidance and encouragement when your child faces difficulties. Please perceive positive intentions within the school environment. We want to provide the best learning experience for all students, and we are all willing to work with you if we run into any “bumps” in the road.
I hope you find these resources and strategies helpful in promoting a solution-focused mentality in your child. By equipping them with this valuable skill, we are empowering them to become resilient and confident individuals.
If you have any further questions or need additional support, please don't hesitate to reach out. Together, let's continue to support our students in their journey towards success. Go Clio! Join the Mustang Charge! #THEPLACETOBE
