NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 5 | 15 AUGUST 2024
“As the sun rises, may your love rise in my heart.
A love that dispels tiredness. A love that overcomes difficulty.
A love that builds relationship. A love that inspires diligence.
A love that delivers excellence. A love that develops trust.
A love that produces praise.
Lord, may I live in the light of your love. Amen”
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have arrived at the halfway point of term and next week we will be heading towards the end of Term 3. We have several events happening over August and September.
Last week was the book fair and Mrs La Rosa was outstanding in her efforts to make the week successful for our students. The Book Fair was up 21% on last year’s figures and this is due to Mrs La Rosa’s great organisation and effort, well done Mrs La Rosa!
In the coming weeks we will have the RoboCup competition, Father’s Day breakfast, our School Open Night / Art Exhibition, Korean Day, Athletics Carnival and the Performing Arts Festival continues - an extremely busy few weeks are ahead of us.
We have been advised of our School Review (QCESR) recommendations. Please see below and they are self-explanatory:
Discerning the school’s future focus
The QCESR panel notes that the school has identified several foci for school improvement. The QCESR panel has recommended that the school remains focused in its identification of future foci in order to identify outcomes that are achievable and easy to quantify. The recommendations are under the following Pillar Headings from the school and CEWA’s Strategic Planning.
CATHOLIC IDENTITY
- Collaborate with our new parish priest to identify ways to involve the parish priest in the life of the school.
- Continue to explore ways to collaborate with the parish to develop a strengthening relationship.
EDUCATION
- Establish processes to review and monitor the effectiveness of the implementation of Oxford Maths which was introduced in 2024.
COMMUNITY
- Continue to commit towards the implementation of RULER and Kimochi’s social and emotional programs within the school classrooms.
STEWARDSHIP
- Continue to focus on the maintenance of school facilities, and ongoing sustainability practices that the school has introduced.
As a school we will continue to work within the parameters of our School / CEWA Strategic Plan and maintain and improve the academic growth that we have developed within our students.
A reminder about parking, that to park in the disabled bay, an ACCROD sticker is to be displayed and families are not to park in the Church or staff car parks at drop off and pick up times.
Please note students will finish school on Friday, 20 September and resume in Term 4 on Monday, 7 October. There is no pupil free day on the first day of Term 4.
God bless and keep safe.

P & F Father’s Day Event RSVP
Calling all Dads and Father Figures,
You are invited to the Father's Day Breakfast Event, run by our P & F Team, on Wednesday, 28 August from 7:30am - 8:50am in Kalyara Mia (Undercover Area).
This event is for Dads and Father Figures who have children in Kindy to Year 6.
The P & F will provide a sausage sizzle. (Sounds like a great way to start the day!)
We ask Dads (or mums on their behalf) to reply to our Expression of Interest form below to allow the P & F to ascertain numbers for catering purposes. We ask for this to be completed by COB Wednesday, 21 August.
We are excited to be able to offer this community event for our dads and father figures.
Regards,
P & F Team
Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Feast of the Assumption takes place today on Thursday, 15 August.
It is our faith that Mary, the Mother of our Lord, has been gifted by her Son with a share in His new state of life. He now nourishes her with his Resurrection life, and that means that her body and soul, her total humanity, is suffused with divine glory.
With Mary, the tradition inspired by the Holy Spirit, tells us that at the end of her earthly life, she grace-fully made the transition from earthly to heavenly existence without the wrenching apart of body and soul, which we may expect.
That is what we mean by ‘The Assumption’. It has been believed and celebrated since the early centuries of the Church.
RULER Social Emotional Learning Program Update
As part of our ongoing efforts to continue to provide the most impactful experiences for the children and families we serve, we are committed to implementing RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning developed at the Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence.
RULER is also an acronym for the skills of emotional intelligence: Recognising emotions, Understanding emotions, Labelling emotions, Expressing emotions, and Regulating emotions. Research from the field of emotion science finds that children who understand and manage their feelings make more responsible decisions, have stronger relationships, and perform better in school.
Teachers, school leaders and staff members in our school have been learning how we can use the skills of emotional intelligence to reach our goals and support our students in doing the same. We have practiced the skills first ourselves, so that we have developed our own abilities and become more emotionally intelligent educators and leaders. In 2024 we commenced the roll out with the students in the classrooms with the goal of integrating these mindsets and practices throughout our school.
Term 1 saw the school focus on the Class Charter Tool. The Charter is an agreement we make to act in ways that help us to feel the way we want to feel in our class.
In Term 2 we collectively explored the Mood Meter which helps build awareness of emotions in ourselves and others, expands our emotional vocabulary and helps us manage our emotions.
This term we are exploring the Meta-Moment, a tool that teaches us how to extend the time between feeling emotionally triggered and our reaction.
Research shows that students and adults who use RULER experience:
· Development of emotion skills
· Improvement in academic performance and classroom climate
· Fewer attention and learning problems
· Greater social and leadership skills
· Less anxiety and depression
· Less stress and burnout
· Better performance in school
When schools and families partner around these goals, students feel supported and reap the benefits. We look forward to continuing to learn and grow together this year.
Hi everyone,
We are almost half way through the term, it is absolutely flying by!
