EMS Absence Reporting
Please use this website to report your child's absence for Esperanza Middle School.

Important Information

Monday, November 25th will be an A day.


We will be closed Wednesday, November 27th through November 29th for Thanksgivng Break. There will be no school for staff or students. We hope everyone has a relaxing Thanksgiving Break and enjoys time with family and friends. At EMS we are thankful of our staff, students, families, and community members who work together so that our students can be successful!

Lost & Found

Our lost & found pile has become very large. Please remind students to check for their belongings before Thanksgiving Break. We will be bagging all left over items on Tuesday after dismissal to donate.

After School Activities

All after-school activities end at 3:30 pm. Two or more late pickups will result in removal from after-school activities.

Upcoming Events

Friday, December 20th will be a two-hour early dismissal for students.


Esperanza will be closed for all students and staff for Winter Break from December 23rd through January 3rd. We will reopen for all students and staff on Monday, January 6th.

Maryland State Department of Education’s Comprehensive Health Education Framework

6th and 7th-grade students will participate in a unit of study entitled Family Life and Human Sexuality during their assigned marking period of health. The letter about this was passed out during open houses and is posted in Schoology. This letter contains information and allows for the option to opt-out. Students with 2nd marking period health will begin this unit on Monday, December 2, 2024. If you have questions regarding the unit or the materials, please contact Ms. Hayden at achayden@smcps.org or Mr. Plotner at wpplotner@smcps.org. Approved materials that may be used by staff may also be viewed on the SMCPS School Health Council Google Site.

My School Bucks and the EMS Library in SMCPS
Families can pay for lost or damaged resources in My School Bucks. Resources include library books, laptops, chargers, textbooks, consumables, etc. My School Bucks is also used to put lunch money on your child's account.
