SkyView Earns AP Honor Roll
SkyView Academy is honored to announce that our High School has earned a place on the College Board's AP School Honor Roll for the 2023-24 school year!
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success.
Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. The students who enter four-year colleges with credit from AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success. And even for those who don’t earn college credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.
September Hawks of the Month
Students are nominated each month by teachers for their demonstration of positive choices and qualities aligned with the school's mission and vision and Character Counts pillars.
Athletics
Cross Country
Middle School Cross Country: It was a hot and dry day on a deceptively hilly course for the MS XC team as they raced at the Goddard MS Viking Challenge, a 3k course, on 9/26/24. Boys A finished 7th of 16 teams, led by Paxton Jessen's 14th place finish and a time of 12:40. Paxton was also the fastest 6th grade boy in the entire race of 114 runners. 7th grader Nathan Quintana continues to be a strong #2 runner for the boys, and 8th graders Jonny Cavett and Owen Wright and 7th grader Charlie Simcik rounded out the scoring for the boys. Girls A finished 4th of 13 teams, and Ella McGowan pulled away from the lead pack just after the 1.25 mile point and powered to a first place finish at 11:57! 8th grader Samantha Musgrave and 7th grader Caroline Hammitt turned in their best races of the season so far. SVA had enough runners in the Girls B race to score. They placed 5th of 13 teams and two runners in the top 20! 7th grader Lauren Oeffling paced the team with a 16:19 and a 12th place finish, followed closely by fellow 7th grader Hollis Holcomb at 18th with a time of 16:40. Honorable mention to 6th grader Ivy Oakes and 7th grader Smayan Konanki for turning in their best races so far for their respective B teams.
High School Cross Country: The HS Cross Country team had their league meet this past Saturday at Englewood HS. It was an exciting and eventful day as both the boys' and girls’ teams competed well. The boys' team finished 3rd out of 7th place, and the girls finished 6th. Sophomore Rylan Griffith finished 1st PLACE for our league, and Senior Mitch Hixson finished in 2nd PLACE! Junior Everett Johnson also finished in 18th place, which would help earn him an honorable mention all-conference. Rylan Griffth finished as the Mile High League Runner of the Year, an amazing accomplishment! Rylan was also the first team to all-conference. Mitch Hixson was also voted 1st team all-conference, which helped cap off an astonishing senior year. What an amazing weekend for all of these runners and for Coach Dave Reese to see all the hard work his runners put in over the season. Great job everyone!

Soccer
Middle School Soccer: On 9/23/24, the A team faced off against Kent and lost 5-2. Kent was a physical and skilled opponent, scoring their first goal with 18:32 left in the first half. Five minutes later, Alex Eschmann equalized for us. The defense held strong, preventing further goals until Kent scored twice in the last seven minutes of the game. The first half ended 3-1 in Kent's favor, and although they scored again with 18:21 left in the second half, Shepherd Eloe managed an "own goal" when his corner kick deflected off a Kent player, bringing the score to 5-2. The B team played Kent the same day and narrowly lost 4-3. Hudson Newman and Krish Mathimaran (his first goal of the season!) gave the team an early lead, but Kent managed to pull ahead by halftime, 3-2, after scoring two goals in the last two minutes of the half. In the second half, Leo Sanchez tied the game with 12:27 left. Unfortunately, Kent secured a last-minute goal with 1:39 remaining, handing the B team a tough loss. On 9/24/24, the A team redeemed themselves with a 4-1 victory against Aspen View Academy. Cameron Lawless opened the scoring five minutes into the game with a cross from Ashton DeLisa. Cameron netted another goal before halftime, though Aspen View broke through with a goal at the 12:30 mark. The second half was a defensive battle until Ashton DeLisa, assisted by Corbin Sadler, scored with 3 minutes left, followed by a final rocket from Sadler to end the game 4-1. The B team had a dominant 7-0 win against Ben Franklin on 9/25/24. Five different players scored, including two goals each from Charlie Krier and Zachary Harker. Spencer Musgrave and Yug Gandikota also scored their first goals of the season. The defense, led by Greyson Graf, Ritvik Srijith Nair, Henry Krier, and others, alongside stellar goalkeeping from Zachary Harker and Colton Moore, kept Ben Franklin scoreless. On 9/30/24, the A team won a hard-fought match against Southeast Christian (SEC) 5-2. SEC scored early in the 6th minute, but great footwork from Ashton DeLisa tied the game with 8:43 left in the first half. Two minutes later, Alex Eschmann scored, giving SVA a 2-1 halftime lead. The second half was another defensive struggle until Ashton scored again with 9:36 left. Shepherd Eloe and Alex Eschmann added two more goals, and while SEC managed a goal with just 15 seconds left, our defense and strong goalkeeping by Josiah Paul secured the win. In their last season game on 10/1/24, the B team lost 6-0 to Cimarron Middle School, a team stacked with experienced 8th grade club players. Despite the tough match, our boys played hard, making adjustments to keep Cimarron scoreless for several stretches. Charlie Krier had some close shots on goal, while Zachary Harkman made several incredible saves in the first half, including one off his face. Colton Moore lifted the team’s spirits with a penalty kick block in the second half. Though the team lost, they ended their season with a strong effort against a formidable opponent.
High School Soccer: The HS Boys Varsity soccer team traveled to Estes Park on Tuesday, 9/24, and the long trip was well worth it. They defeated Estes Park 7-0 behind sophomore Moe Estacio’s 3 goal performance. Sophomores Ryker Budimlya, Haylen Brown, Freshman Rob Melans, and Senior Markus Lloyd all registered a goal. The JV team had a game against STEM on 9/25, in which they battled hard but unfortunately came up just short. The action, however, was not done as the Varsity soccer team finished with a 1-1 tie against Heritage Christian this past Tuesday. Unfortunately, the team lost their Homecoming game to Bishop Machebeuf. The Varsity and JV team have an away game against Denver Academy this Tuesday, and the Varsity team has an away game against Dawson. Good luck boys. Let's finish these last four games strong!
Golf
The HS Boys Golf has had a very busy and exciting last two weeks. On Tuesday, 9/24 our team hosted the final league tournament of the year at Lone Tree Golf Club. The team battled the toughness and narrowness of the golf course and displayed some extreme grit and poise as the team was able to win the tournament by 1 stroke! Sophomore Luke Hinchey was the talk of the tournament as he finished tied for 4th place by shooting a career best 79! Sophomore Tyler Roe also shot a very strong 86 to conclude his season on an extremely high note. The Varsity team concluded the regular season as league champions as they swept the league, meaning they won every league tournament this season! The all league teams were also announced after this tournament, and our athletes were acknowledged profoundly by our league opponents! Seniors Josh Reeves and Landon Webb received 1st team all league honors as they finished the season as the number 2 and number 3 ranked golfers in the entire league. Junior Tucker Corazaari finished one spot away from the first team and finished as the 6th ranked golfer in the league, along with the 2nd team, with all-league honors. Senior Ryan Carr also received 2nd team all league honors, while sophomore Luke Hinchey received honorable mention all league honors. Head Coach Mike Morong was also voted by the other coaches of the league as League Coach of the Year! That is the perfect cherry on top for our head coach, who has put so much time and effort into these boys and the program. His hard work, leadership, and success were justified by the other coaches in the league. Congratulations on all of these accomplishments!
The postseason started with Regionals last Monday at Common Ground Golf Course. The playing conditions were extremely tough as the wind blew strong all day, but our four golfers showcased tremendous character as they battled all day. The Regional tournament concluded with our team finishing in second place, but even more impressive was that all four golfers qualified for the State Tournament. This is an astounding accomplishment, and we could not be more proud of our golfers. The State Tournament will occur this Monday and Tuesday at Rolling Hills Country Club in Golden. Congratulations and good luck at State this Monday and Tuesday to Seniors Landon Webb, Josh Reeves, Ryan Carr, and Junior Tucker Corazarri. The SVA community is so proud of you!
Volleyball
Middle School Volleyball: The last few weeks have been quite busy for the MS Volleyball programs, which they battled hard with, but unfortunately, all three levels fell in the regular season finale to Ben Franklin Academy. The A and B team playoffs started this past Monday as both teams headed to Aspen View. The A team battled hard, but unfortunately, they faced defeat. This would conclude the season for the A team girls, who had a valiant season in which each girl truly improved. The B team, however, played upset as they beat Aspen View’s B team in 2 sets to book a trip to the semi-finals. The Barrington sisters, Liliana Barrington, 6th grade, and Olivia Barrington, 8th grade, helped power the offense. It was quite the game as they showcased their in season improvements. Early in the season, our B team lost to Aspen View Academy, so coming back and winning with your season on the line is quite amazing! The B team’s season then came to an end against Ben Franklin in the semis. The improvements from the first game of the year to now are truly remarkable, and all of these girls should be very proud of themselves.
High School Volleyball: The Varsity Volleyball had quite the last weeks when it came to travel as they went to Gilpin County HS, Dawson HS, and Flatirons while only hosting DaySpring Chrisitan. It has been a tough few games as the varsity team fell to Gilpin County HS in three sets, Dawson in five, Flatirons in three, and Dayspring in three. The JV team started their 3 game road trip with a tough loss to Gilpin County; however, they bounced back and defeated Dawson in two sets! Sophomore Kayla Ruby made an impact on the receiving end, showcasing her strong ability to read serves and kills! Freshman Ellie McLaughlin continues improving as she grows into a comfortable player who does a little bit of everything but specifically attacks! The C team followed in the JV’s footsteps as they fell to Gilpin County and then beat Dawson. The C team played strong and efficiently against Dawson as the strong offensive performances of sophomore Mariella Nylund Marucut and sophomore Bryarrose Thompson powered them. Marilella dominated the attacking game as she racked up the kills, and Bryarrose covered a tremendous amount of ground on her passing, setting the offense for success. All three levels both played their away game against Flatirons and the Homecoming game against Dayspring Christian. All three levels have home games this Monday against Clear Creek and an away game against Heritage Christian.
ESports
This past Wednesday our ESports team faced off against CCHS in the game Overwatch. Our Overwatch team included Sophomore Logan Lucia, Freshman AJ Belluardo, and Juniors Alex Hammer and Alex Wyse. After a decisive 0-3 Defeat in the preseason, SVA came back with a few adjustments to their team composition and made the improvements necessary to win a few rounds within games! The E-Sports team also competes in Rocket League. In Rocket League, or team faced off against a STRONG Arvada West Team (even down a player), SVA pulled Game 3 away to force a Game 4. Series finished off 1-3 for SVA but saw some GREAT play from our Captain Alex H, newcomer Lucas R, and some EPIC SAVES from Alex W. They will be facing off against Cherry Creek in Week 2 and will look to capitalize on the improvements as we head into Week 2.
