Cafeteria Updates
A favorite is returning to the cafeteria....ICE CREAM! We will begin selling ice cream on Friday, October 11th. Students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to purchase an ice cream for $1.50 each Friday.
We would also like to remind everyone that students are not able to purchase milk in the cafeteria if they do not have money on their account (no charging allowed for milk purchases). If a child needs milk and does not have money, he/she will be required to purchase two other food groups, and then he/she will be charged for a full lunch.
Be sure to create a LINQ Connect account to prepay for meals. Online payments are a simple, safe and secure way to make payments to your child's account 24 hours a day at your convenience. Parents can use the secure site to prepay for school meals, track food purchases, and have the assurance of knowing lunch money they send from home actually makes it to school. If a child’s account becomes low on funds, parents receive low balance alerts by e-mail. Visit linqconnect.com to setup your account. You will need your child's student ID to add them to your account. This number can be found in PowerSchool or you can email Mrs. Ferguson (lisa_ferguson@charleston.k12.sc.us), and she will send it to you. Thank you!
Math Help Sessions
Were you unable to attend the Math Help sessions offered this week? No problem! We have linked the handouts for each session below. We will send out copies of the presentations with audio overlays soon. Be sure to check out the linked videos on the "What Kids Learn Each Year in Math" sheets. They do a great job of showing the progression of math development over the years.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Hallie Outlaw, our Instructional Coach, at hallie_outlaw@charleston.k12.sc.us or our Parent Educator, Lisa Marie Ferguson, at lisa_ferguson@charleston.k12.sc.us.
Meet Our School Counselor
Hello, Sullivan’s Island Skimmers! My name is Walker Russell, and I am the school counselor at SIES. This is my 20th year as a school counselor, and I am so excited to be here! The School Counseling program at Sullivan’s Island Elementary School is based on the American School Counseling Association’s Model and the South Carolina Comprehensive School Counseling & Career Guidance Model. The program includes a variety of services for ALL students and is designed to assist with interests and issues related to the stages of student growth in the areas of academic, career, personal, emotional, and social development. Below are a few of the services offered for the 2024-2025 school year:
Classroom lessons with an emphasis on personal/social skills, bullying prevention, character education, academic development (study skills), career awareness, and child protection. I see every class in the building once a month.
Small group counseling sessions (with parent permission) for students focusing on but not limited to: grief, test taking skills, friendship/social skills, family changes, and emotional regulation. If you feel your child needs assistance in any of these areas, please email or call me. I'm happy to assist!
Individual meetings to help students adjust to school or help with personal issues on an as-needed basis.
Referral assistance to other programs and services in the community
504 plan coordinator
I look forward to working with you and your family this year! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. SOAR on, Skimmers!
