Dear LAHS Students and Families,

As we get ready to flip the calendar to August, it is that time of summer when the building seems a little too quiet. The silence is often welcomed after the craziness of the end of the school year, but by this time in the final days of July, we definitely miss the presence of the students and the energy they bring to the building.

In this update, we will provide you with some additional information for the start of school on various items including new staff, laptop distribution, and PowerSchool information. In mid-August, we will send another update. I apologize for the delay in sending this out. One of our links for technology wasn't working, and I wanted to ensure everything was in order before sending.

LASD experienced some difficulty late last week with the online payment/waiver for laptops. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused. This was remedied in the this afternoon and the payment area should now be viewable again. Please click on the Jotform below to go to the site.

On July 31, LASD will be mailing home instructions for all families on how to access the online forms for updating student information. Parents and guardians are required to complete these updates annually. After the updates are completed, our building administrative assistants will review the information and provide access to student schedules and bus information. The portal for student and parent access will be viewable August 5th, if the updates have been completed. Students and parents/guardians will not be able to access PowerSchool until that time.

While we make every effort to fulfill students' schedule requests, that is not always possible. Usually this occurs because there is a conflict of meeting times for courses or because there are no more seats available in certain classes. Information for making changes to the schedule will be sent home. On August 9th, we will make the link for course change requests available via email. (Seniors should have received the link specifically for the Class of 2025 when they received the hard copies of their schedules.)

Course requests will be completed in the following order:

• Students who are missing a grade-level graduation requirement/core class
• Students who wish to drop a course with no replacement
• Students who do not have a minimum of 7 credits (6.75 for Seniors)
• Students who wish to add a course AND have the availability within their current schedule to accommodate it. (Order Grade 12, 11, 10, 9)

Please note that we will not make changes due to teacher preference or preference for time of day.

Summer is always a time for interviewing and this year is no exception. We are happy to welcome the following new staff members.

• John Gradwell, Counselor- Mr. Gradwell comes to us with experience as a HS Counselor in the Pottsville and Pine Grove school districts. He will be working with students whose last names begin with G-O.
• Courtney Shandera, English - As a Lewisburg alum, Mrs. Shandera will be returning to life as a Green Dragon. Previously a teacher in the Warrior Run School District, Mrs. Shandera will be joining our English department.

Although not new to LAHS, we also have some teachers working in different capacities. Ms. Sydney Edwards will be our new librarian. In addition to her role in the Learning Commons, she will still assist the English department. Another change is Ms. Emaleigh Greb moving full-time to our English department. Previously, she had been working at both DHEMS and here at LAHS.

Administratively, Mr. Josh Popowycz, LAHS Assistant Principal, was approved at the July school board meeting to become the new LAHS Principal on December 1st. He has done an outstanding job in his tenure as our assistant principal for the past three years and will continue to excel in his new position.At the August 8th school board meeting, we hope to hire our new assistant principal and will share the information with you in a future update.

For those families who are new to the Lewisburg Area School District, registration should be completed online at the link below. Once registration is complete and approved, a course guide and schedule sheet will be emailed. A counselor or administrator will then be in touch to set up a time to help select courses and schedule for the school year.

Laptop Distribution Dates for LAHS Students will occur on the following dates:

• Tuesday, July 30 -- 6:00 - 8:00 PM
• Wednesday, August 7 -- 8:30 - 11:30 AM
• Thursday, August 15 -- 1:00 - 4:00 PM

Students who are not able to attend one of the dates listed above will receive their laptop on the first day of school.

Seniors: Ready to start applying to colleges?

Please visit the Guidance Office website "College Application Process" tab for important information regarding the Common App, Naviance, teacher recommendations and forms.

College Night at Bucknell University is Monday, October 14th! Over 60 colleges and post-secondary programs will be in the Gerhard Fieldhouse from 6:30-8:00pm. This is a great opportunity to speak to representatives from these schools. It is a free event open to all high school students! Please check out the College Night tab on the Guidance Office website for a list of colleges attending (will be updated as colleges are added).

For those students who have their licenses and vehicles that they will be driving regularly, the application for parking permits is now available. Please complete the form below. Information regarding the criteria for having a spot is listed in the form. Car hangars may be picked up beginning on August 5th in the main office.

2024-2025 Parking Registration

Registration for Fall Sports is available online at the Arbiter Sports (formerly Family ID) site. You can click this link to access the Family ID registration. Registration will close on August 8, 2024. Practices for Golf and Football will start on Monday August 5th. The remainder of the fall sports will start on Monday August 12th.

There is a parent/athlete meeting scheduled for Tuesday July 30th at 7:00 PM in the Lewisburg High School Auditorium. Individual sport meetings with the individual sport coaches will then occur after the meeting.

Each student-athlete must have a completed sports physical and a base activity fee as well as a sport fee paid before they start practices. Students MUST have a physical completed by an Authorized Medical Examiner and must be dated no earlier than May 1, 2024, prior to starting practice. You may click the attachment to download a physical form. There will be free physicals on August 5 from 1:00-2:30 at LAHS.

You can pay your activity fee and sport fee in the following manner online: Go to www.lasd.us → click the Pay Online button in the middle of the home page → Student Activity Form. You can then complete that for all of the children in your family. Checks should be made payable to Lewisburg Area School District. If you’re not sure if you’ve paid already, please call the Athletic Office at the number listed below.
