Social Work Scoop
Did you know we have a room at our school called the Reset Room? This is a safe space where students can come when they are in need of a break throughout the day. Students are encouraged to use this room when they are feeling overwhelmed, emotional, and really need a moment to just feel what they are feeling. This allows time for them to regulate and move on with their day. The Reset Room is dimly lit with a few different seating options and activities to aid in their regulation. The student or teacher will set a timer for how long they can stay. Sometimes when they are in the reset room, they will chat with myself or our behavioral health aide about what is going on so we can help. Other times, they simply need a quiet space to calm down before going back to class. Additionally, many classrooms have a calming space inside the class that they can go to when needed. All this to say, this does not have to be a school only tool! Creating a “Calm Down Corner” in your home can be as simple as asking your kiddo where they feel comfortable and making that space as cozy and safe as possible for them. This should be a safe space that they can go to feel whatever feelings they are having without judgment or punishment. Please follow the link below for more tips on creating a calm down corner in your house!
Alamo WatchD.O.G.S.
Our WatchD.O.G.S. program is in full swing. “Dads” (or dad-like figures) who are interested in signing up to volunteer for a full or half day should contact Natalie Trumley (ntrumley@otsegops.org) or Nicole Knight-Lucas (nknight-lucas@otsegops.org) via email to schedule a date.
When you volunteer, you will receive a schedule for the day that allows you to help out in different classrooms doing a wide range of activities (reading a story, working with a child 1:1 on work, playing a game with a small group). You will also have scheduled time on the playground and lunchroom to interact with students and be a positive role model for them. We need a current background check on file before you are able to volunteer.

Emergency Contact
It is extremely important to have up-to-date contact information available for each student. When emergencies arise, we need to be able to contact parents/guardians. This is also the contact information that is used for school closures and district updates.
Please log in to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to check that your contact information is current and to make any necessary changes. All families received a letter with parent login information and instructions from the technology department soon. If you need assistance or login information for the Parent Portal, please contact the Alamo Elementary Office. Thank You!
