Message from the Executive Director
Monday, January 6, 2025
Dear GLOBE community,
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a restful winter break. We look forward to welcoming students back to campus tomorrow, January 7.
As we begin the second semester with cooler temperatures and the possibility of snow towards the end of the week, I would like to go over a few reminders about weather related alerts and messaging, as well as some campus specific details regarding student drop-off and parking.
Winter season
Inclement weather
When severe weather creates hazardous conditions, the regular school schedule may be suspended to ensure the safety of students and staff. GLOBE follows DeKalb County School District decisions on weather emergencies. If emergency early dismissal is necessary, the school will contact parents with dismissal instructions.
Register to receive text message notifications
Please register your cell phone number with our Remind text messaging service by texting @globers to 81010.
If a potentially hazardous event occurs prior to the beginning of the school day, we recommend you tune in to local radio or television broadcasts (WSB-TV Channel 2 is a great resource), check local news networks, GLOBE's website, social media, etc. for information.
Suitable clothing
Please ensure students wear suitable clothing to school, especially during the early morning when temperatures are particularly low. Recess and P.E. are only held indoors if it is actively raining, or if the temperature "feels like" it is at or below 32ºF.
Health and wellness
Flu cases, as well as other respiratory illnesses, are on the rise in metro Atlanta. With many in our community having recently returned from their travels during the holidays, it is important that we lean heavily on the C in CREST by keeping students at home if they are sick.
Campus specific information / student drop-off / parking
Upper Campus
Drop-off will close promptly at 8:00 a.m, regardless of whether you are already in the parking lot or not. After that time, parents/guardians must report to the Front Office to sign-in their student(s) as tardy. We ask that you please obey the signs and instructions from our staff. Left turns are not permitted when exiting the carpool drive onto Briarcliff Road. Also, please do not turn around at Mary Scott Nature park, as this backs up the flow of traffic.
Please do not park/pick-up/drop-off GLOBE students at Shallowford Presbyterian Church and/or Church in Atlanta. Also, please remember that it is illegal to park within 30 feet of stop signs in Georgia. Drivers that continuously break this rule, or block driveways and mailboxes, are at risk of receiving a traffic fine and/or causing traffic delays, so please choose the wider, less congested roads, park in safe spots, and be courteous to our neighbors.
Lower Campus
Please note that parking is not permitted on Heritage Drive between Briarcliff Road and the school between 8am and 3pm. Drivers who do not follow this rule, or block driveways and mailboxes, are at risk of receiving a traffic fine and/or causing traffic delays. Again, we ask that you please be courteous to our neighbors, and remember our CREST values.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions. We are looking forward to another great semester here at GLOBE!
In community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
