The Wildcat Week Ahead
5/6 - 5/10
Happy Sunday, GIS Families!
Here starts the stretch of a busy three weeks! This week, our ABC countdown to the end of school begins with Animal Print Day and Beach Day, and our Bike Bus runs on Friday. If you have a kiddo who wants to participate in the bike bus but needs a bike, please email Mr. Foster. He will bring extra bikes to the start of the route for kids. We want every student who wants to participate an opportunity. If your kiddo wants to participate but does not want to do the whole route, they can start at the fire station! The bike bus will pick them up as they roll through.
The art and music festival, the family math/literacy, and the community dinner will take place in the following weeks. Please sign up for the dinner so we can ensure we make enough food.
This week is teacher appreciation week. The PTA has created a fantastic appreciation spread, and I've attached the flyer below. We're looking for dessert donations for Thursday (sign up below).
Ms. Shelley has a few more spots to meet with parents or children. If you want to refer your kiddo, please complete this form.
Ms. Larson has finished the yearbook and those have been ordered. Once they come in, they will be distributed to kids.
As always, my door and inbox are always open,
Mrs. H

Learners Group- Focus Group Opportunities
Dear Families and Caregivers,
At the GISU, our mission is to ensure that all within our learning community are curious, creative, courageous, and capable of pursuing their aspirations in a diverse and ever-changing world. To pursue this mission, we must ensure that all our learning spaces are equitable and inclusive. To understand how well we are doing this, we are working with the Learner’s Group to conduct focus groups with students, staff, and families.
The leadership team has worked with the Learner’s Group to create age-appropriate survey questions to help us understand what we are doing well and what we must focus on to ensure all students and families feel a sense of belonging. Responses are anonymous, and results will help leaders and boards plan.
We are informing you for two reasons:
We would like your permission for your child to participate in the focus groups during the school day.
We invite you to be a part of the family focus group.
The Focus Groups for our school will be held on: May 13, 2024
Thank you for working with us on our mission!
Sincerely,
Ashley Hanlon

Need Help Paying for Childcare?
Did you know? The state of Vermont helps cover child care costs. Starting on April 7, more families will qualify for tuition assistance based on family size and income. For example, a family of four making $124,800 a year can get help paying for programs. You can find out more about eligibility requirements online. To apply, contact your local Community Child Care Support Agency.
Help Needed at School
This week is teacher appreciation week!
Our AMAZING PTA is hosting a dessert cart day.
On Thursday, the PTA will go out to each classroom and deliver a teacher treat.
Help Us Fill a Dump Truck (a small one!)
Island Excavating is parking a smaller dump truck in the school parking lot on May 28 and 29 for us to collect bottles and cans in! Please save your returnables in garbage bags to donate on those days. We are looking into installing a permanent bottle return at GIS. We will keep you updated on that.
