March 2 is National Read Across America Day, a day to celebrate our favorite activity. The day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading. The day occurs each year on the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss.On National Read Across America Day, students, teachers, parents, and community members around the nation come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading — join us!

To celebrate the joy of reading, CMSS will have dress up days. Please see the photo below for more information. Students must following the guidelines in the student handbook for dress code.

CMSS is proud to support the American Heart Association this upcoming month in our PE classes. The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and exciting event where your student learns about their heart while helping others by raising money for the American Heart Association.

On Wednesday, February 26th, students will kickoff our Kids Heart Challenge with a pep rally. Prizes will be awarded for the top raising students and 100% of the money collected goes to support AHA. Any student who raises $100 or more will get to Silly String the Principals!

All collected monies must be turned in to Coach Fuller by Friday, March 13th.

The CMSS Builders Club is accepting donations for the Cabot Animal Shelter. They are requesting cat litter, animal toys, and new or gently used blankets. Donations can be dropped off in Room 305 with Mrs. West.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, March 17th and Thursday, March 19th from 3:15 - 7:00 pm. Sign up information will be sent home with students on Monday, March 2nd.

Cabot Public Schools will be closed on Friday, March 20th.

Spring Break is right around the corner! Cabot Public Schools will be closed March 23rd - 27th. We hope you have a restful week!

CMSS Quiz Bowl Teams placed 1st and 3rd place in the 2nd Annual Cabot Middle School Quiz Bowl Tournament. Congratulations to Carter as the Overall High Scorer for the tournament. Thank you to Fellowship Baptist Church for hosting the tournament.

Cabot Public Schools has once again teamed up with our Cabot Classroom Teacher Association, Cabot Panther Foundation, and Centennial Bank of Cabot to recognize our outstanding educators! One educator will be honored with the title Cabot Public Schools Teacher of the Year and will be eligible for submission to the Arkansas Teacher of the Year Award.

Does your child need some help with their homework or a quiet place to study before school? Our Homework Room is open every morning beginning at 7:30 in the GT Room. At least one math and one literacy teacher are available each morning in the Homework Room to help students with assignments.

CMSS Builder's Club is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House located at Arkansas Children's Hospital through April 30th. Students can drop off their donations with their Advisory Teacher. Thanks for supporting this worthy cause!

Box Tops for Education is still going strong and each box top counts as cash for CMSS! Since 1996, General Mills has donated over $913 million to schools just like CMSS.

You can continue to send in your Box Tops with your student OR you can download the Box Top App and choose CMSS at your school. Then, simply scan your grocery receipt and CMSS will be credited for each eligible item you purchased.

That's Right! Every student can enjoy a free breakfast each morning. Research has shown that children who eat breakfast are more likely to focus and perform better in the classroom.

Lunch prices will remain the same as last year:

• Elementary lunch: $2.40
• Secondary lunch $2.60
• Reduced lunch $0.40

If you are a family that is facing financial hardships, the most important thing you can do is to let us know. There is no deadline to apply for free and reduced meals. We will be more than happy to help you fill out the paperwork or apply online. If you don’t qualify for that program, they are still willing and able to provide assistance as needed. For any questions, please contact the Food Service Director, Erin Wilkes at 501-843-3363.

At the Cabot School District, “It’s about KIDS,” and your student could be part of the long history of academic excellence even if you don’t live in the district. CPS is currently accepting School Choice applications for the 2020-20201 school year. Applications should be turned into the Central Administrative Offices, located at 602 N. For pick up and drop off, cars will enter Panther Trail and turn around at the designated turn around spot, just past the water tower. Cars must use the "Merge" lane to create 1 lane of traffic heading toward Kerr Station Road. Panther Trail is a city street and must remain open for through traffic. Cars will turn into the CMSS driveway from Panther Trail.

Avoid dropping off/picking up your student in the parking lots. This creates traffic that could result in an injury to our students and staff. Parking lots are reserved for those parking and entering the building.

Morning Drop Off

• Drop off is 1 lane. Use the lane closest to the building.
• Please pull as far forward as possible when dropping off your student. This allows more students to exit the cars and speeds up the drop off line.
• Students will enter the building through the front doors.

Afternoon Pick Up

• Pick up is 2 lanes after entering the CMSS driveway. Cars must use the "Merge" lane to create 1 lane of traffic heading toward Kerr Station Road. Panther Trail is a city street and must remain open for through traffic.
• Present your placard to the caller as you approach the beginning of the car line.
• Students will listen for their name and go to the number called with their name.
• Cars will pull up to the number called. (#1 is near the 6th grade hall/closest to the Kerr Station exit/#10 is near the 5th grade hall/closest to the caller).
• Students will wait until the vehicle comes to a complete stop to load their car.
