WBMS Friday Notes
4/2/21
Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Today we stood with those in our community with autism by learning about it during the morning announcements and by wearing blue. We consistently combat the negative messages our students receive specifically the racial, religious, ability, and gender targeting that continues. Whether an event is local as it was recently with the hate crimes within our Asian community or farther away against another group, the impact is tremendously harmful. At WBMS we proactively work to teach respect and inclusion through The Webb Way. Our desire is for every individual in our community to feel valued.
Specifically, this year, we have extended The Webb Way and celebrations to include:
- Motivational Monday and Feel Good Fridays where students hear positive messages about different people making a positive impact in our world
- Together Tuesday announcements where we learn more about an individual student or teacher and his/her cultural background
- Hispanic Heritage Month
- Chinese New Year
- Kindness Month
- Black History Month
- Exceptional Children’s Week
- International Festival
- National Women’s History Month
- Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
- Autism Awareness Day (today!)
- The Daffodil Project
We have been intentionally working towards becoming a designated No Place for Hate School because we feel strongly in our vision of becoming a truly inclusive community. To learn more about what this designation means, please visit https://www.noplaceforhate.org/.
I encourage you all to take a few moments and watch this year’s powerful Daffodil Project student presentation (see below). Our students viewed it Monday during Compass and were asked to pick a Webb Way value word and write how they could leverage the value to make the world a better place. The students’ responses were overwhelming! Their words were thoughtful, vulnerable, and simply heartwarming. Our remote students sent their contributions through email or dropped them off at school and our F2F students brought them by the front office throughout this week. Some of their potent responses were audio recorded and can be heard at the end of the Daffodil Project presentation and all are being made into a huge paperchain that will hang in the front hallway of our school to remind us all that hate of any kind has no place at WBMS.
While the vast majority of our students embrace our message of love for all, we must work together as a community to stop hate of any kind. Please monitor your child/children’s social media accounts closely and have them block or unfollow anyone who posts hateful images or comments. Lastly, if you or your child hears or witnesses anything that negatively targets any individual or group of individuals, report it immediately so our administration can take action. There is no room for hatred or bigotry at WBMS.
Enjoy a wonderful week with your families. Stay safe and continue to mask up, wash up, and back up!
In collaboration -
Rebecca Williams

Parent Survey
So much has changed in the world and at WBMS due to COVID. Some of the changes have improved our school and thus we want to keep them even once school goes back to normal. However, are there school processes and procedures we hope will end with the epidemic. The purpose of this survey is to capture what we want to keep after COVID and what we hope will not be needed once the fear of the epidemic has ended. Thank you in advance for your reflection and feedback.
