District Level Parent and Family Advisory Committee
Families attended the Division Level Parent and Family Advisory Committee Meeting held at Bonner. The FACE Team provided families with division updates and focused the Read and Rise: 24-25 DPS Literacy Campaign.
Family Literacy Night
The Annual Title III American Education Week Family Day event at Galileo High School on Tuesday, November 19. Students shared a variety of products that they were able to use to demonstrate their growth in language, literacy and family pride to our guests from around the world and across the division. With more than 100 students and guests in attendance, EL teachers and their students shared videos, paintings, posters and stories about their cultural heritage from around the world to include a number of countries, such as Honduras, El Salvador, Uruguay, Brazil, Yemen, Jordan and others.
Westwood Middle School
Families were excited to participate as Westwood Middle School hosted their "Tiger Pride Fall Festival" on November 21. Students and families were provided the opportunity to engage in linked to learning activities that focused on reading and math literacy.
E.A. Gibson Elementary School
Scholars at E.A. Gibson Elementary School received their Bulldog Boost awards. Way to go Bulldogs!
Park Avenue Elementary School
Park Avenue Elementary School welcomed Carolina Critters for a thrilling visit, where students got an up-close look at fascinating animals. It was an exciting learning experience about wildlife and habitats.
Activ8 STEM Academy
On Monday Activ8 STEM Academy kicked off their "House" Spirit Week with an epic pep rally!
GLH Johnson Elementary School
GLH Johnson hosted their Nachos & Numbers Night, which focused on important mathematics skills. This fun-filled night had something for everyone to learn.
Institute for Advanced Learning and Research
Scholars from Park Avenue Elementary and Schoolfield Elementary learned about geographic information systems (GIS) at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research

Last chance to enter the Holiday Card Contest!
We will be accepting submissions for our holiday card contest starting November 1! Submissions can be given to homeroom teachers or emailed to ldavis2@mail.dps.k12.va.us. First place will receive $200, and we will use their design for the DPS holiday card. Second place will receive $100. ALL students K-12 are invited to participate!
Please note: to be considered, cards must have covers that can be digitized through scanning. Elements such as 3D items and glitter cannot be digitized or recreated.
