PBIS Wrap-Up: Cheers, Ice Cream, and an Amazing Semester!
Dear HVJ PBIS Team,
Wow, what a semester it’s been! 💥 I’m absolutely thrilled by the incredible difference our committee has made in our school community. As we wrap up, I wanted to send a heartfelt thank-you and give you a quick recap of our final two activities.
🍦 “I Scream, You Scream: Perfect Attendance” – A Sweet Success!
This event was nothing short of a blast! Sponsored by the amazing Polite family, their generous contribution helped us pull off a celebration that was a chef’s kiss 👌. We gave them a heartfelt tribute to express our gratitude, and I couldn’t be happier that they’ve joined our mission to make a difference. Truly, their support means the world! 🌟
🎁 End-of-Semester Treat – The Ultimate Finale!
Huge shoutout to Mr. Greene, our very own committee member, for sponsoring this fantastic event! 🙌 His generosity ensured every student left with a treat bag, spreading joy and smiles all around. The game was epic—so intense, so fun, and oh-so-unforgettable. A massive thank-you to everyone who made it happen: students, staff, the Emcee, referee, teachers, Deejay, coaches, and all the behind-the-scenes heroes. 👏
This semester has been nothing short of AMAZING, all because of YOU. Your dedication, creativity, and heart have transformed ideas into reality and brought joy to so many. I’m beyond grateful to be part of this unstoppable team.
Wishing you all a happy, restful holiday season! 🎄✨ I can’t wait to see what magic we’ll create together next semester.
Attached are some highlights from the two events—enjoy the memories! 📸

Xavier Henry
We wanted to share Xavier’s amazing news with everyone. Xavier received his acceptance notification for MIT this week!
Xavier is very excited about this opportunity; this is his #1 school choice! For those that don’t know, Xavier is a bit quiet until he gets to know you (then he doesn’t stop talking 😉).
Please congratulate Xavier when you see him on this exciting news!
Congratulate to Jun Hao Lin and Siddartha Sarakadam on moving forward to the District Science/Engineering Fair that will take place January 15th.

11th Annual Youth Ocean Conservation Summit (YOCS)
The University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant would like to invite your middle and high school students to participate in the 11th Annual Youth Ocean Conservation Summit (YOCS) from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025! The event will take place at the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidaway Island in Savannah (30 Ocean Science Circle, Savannah, GA 31411).
YOCS is designed to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to successfully implement ocean conservation projects in their local communities. This is a great opportunity for students to develop their interests, gain new skills in environmental literacy, and connect with other students and professionals interested in ocean conservation.
The theme of our conference this year is “Highlighting Women in Ocean Science”. During their time with us, students will participate in skill-building workshops, learn from marine scientists and environmental stewards, speak with past YOCS participants, and develop their own ocean conservation projects. The program is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., so students should be prepared for a busy and exciting day!
We encourage any interested middle school and high school students (grades 6-12) to register online at https://gacoast.uga.edu/youth-ocean-conservation-summit/.
Registration closes January 20, 2025, or when the event is full.
The event is limited to 50 students on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to high interest in the event, there is a 10-student maximum per school or organization. The $12 registration fee includes lunch, a T-shirt, and all conference materials. The registration fee is subsidized by private donations from Friends of Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. Please note that the registration fee is non-refundable.
Please notify your students, parents, and teachers about this exciting opportunity. For any questions or comments, please contact the YOCS planning team at fish@uga.edu or (912) 598-2354. Thank you for your time and consideration.
