MAP Assessment
7th and 8th grade students took the math MAP test over the last two days; 6th grade students will take the MAP test on January 29th and 30th. In addition, all 7th-grade students will take the IAAT (Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test), a part of the IOWA assessment series, on January 29 in their math class. To prepare, students will complete a practice assessment on January 28.
A Message from Field Middle School's Counselor
Dear FMS Families,
I hope your 2025 is off to a happy and healthy start! Mine is about to be quite busy as I am now starting maternity leave in preparation for Baby Gaffke's arrival. I will be out on leave through the rest of the 2024-2025 school year.
Brandon Berry is my long-term substitute during this time. Mr. Berry comes to us with some wonderful elementary school counseling experience, a willingness to do anything to support our students, and an open heart! I have no doubt that he will make a positive impact on our students while at FMS. He will be in the building Monday through Wednesday and Friday each week. Please contact him via email at brandon.berry@fieldlocalschools.org and/or by phone using my extension, school number + 4035.
I wish you all the best in the second half of the school year and a beautiful summer break!
Sincerely,
Ali Gaffke

My Child is Not Feeling Well. Should I Send Him/Her To School?
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this newsletter finds you and your family in good health. As we navigate through the school year, it's essential to address the well-being of our students, especially when it comes to their health. Here's a guide with some resources to help you make informed decisions about when to send your child to school and where to go for quick care.
When to keep your child home from school:
- Fever: Keep your child home if they have a fever of 100.4°F or higher. Wait until they are fever free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
- Symptoms: Consider the severity of symptoms. If your child experiences persistent coughing, extreme fatigue, or difficulty breathing, it's best to keep them home until these symptoms improve.
- Contagious Period: Ensure your child is no longer contagious before sending them back to school to prevent the spread of illness.
- Notification: Inform the school as soon as possible if your child is unwell.
Quick Care: Urgent Care or ER? Where to Go?
Navigating the healthcare system can be challenging. Please see the attached document below titled "Quick Care, Urgent Care, or ER: Where to Go?" It offers valuable information to help you determine the appropriate care for your child's needs.
Cold, Flu, or COVID-19?
In these times, distinguishing between symptoms can be tricky. Please click on the document below or visit our website for guidance on identifying whether your child is experiencing a cold, the flu, or symptoms associated with COVID-19.
The Flu: A Guide for Parents
Flu season is upon us and being informed is the first step in prevention and care. Check out the guide below on dealing with the flu and keeping your child healthy. We encourage you to explore these resources on our website for detailed information on these crucial topics.
Your child's health is of the utmost importance to us, and together, we can create a safe and nurturing environment for all. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the school nurse or administrative staff.
We here at FMS are wishing you and your family continued health and well-being.
Attention Sixth Grade Parents
This letter is to inform you of the immunization requirements for (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis), as a booster to the initial series of required doses. Ohio is requiring the Tdap vaccine, as opposed to Td, to protect against Pertussis (whooping cough). In addition to the Tdap, your child is also required to receive the Meningococcal vaccine prior to the entry into Grade 7. The Meningococcal vaccine prevents bacteria that is commonly spread from person to person, especially in teens and young adults. These bacteria can cause meningitis, which is an infection of the fluid and lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord; it can also enter the bloodstream, causing sepsis. Please contact your health care provider to schedule an appointment to receive the vaccines your child will need for the next year. For a complete list of immunization requirements for school-age children in the State of Ohio, please go to: www.odh.ohio.gov/odhPrograms/dis/Immunization/imunchsc.aspx REQUIRED 7th Grade shots (2 shots): · Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) · Meningococcal vaccine
