SOESC Board Member Spotlight
Mr. Roy Hill - SOESC Governing Board President
Mr. Hill represents Subdistrict 9 in Adams County and has been a member of the Southern Ohio ESC Governing Board since January 2012. Mr. Hill served as Superintendent at Lockland City from 1994 until 2000, Adams County/Ohio Valley from 2000 until 2002, and Fayetteville Perry Local from 2004 until 2011. Mr. Hill also worked as a private contractor for educational services and was prompted to join the SOESC Governing Board after retiring, yet still wanting to stay involved in education and to serve his community. In addition to serving on the SOESC board, Mr. Hill works with Ohio University to bring high-quality professional development to school administrators and treasurers in the 5 surrounding counties. Mr. Hill also works with the Ohio department of education to help schools and districts around the state improve their academic performance. Mr. Hill works as a School Improvement Diagnostic Review Team Member for the Ohio Department of Education. Also serves as the Region 14 Facilitator for the OULP. The Ohio University Leadership Project brings high-quality professional development to educators in Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, and Highland Counties. Alongside Jeff Royalty, Mr. Hill works on the superintendent cohort activities. Mr. Hill assists to coordinate professional development components at each Region 14 Governing board meeting, as well as a school treasurer cohort. Rachel Meyer and Mr. Hill work together to provide PD to the treasurers and their staff in the Region. Which has been inactive during the Covid pandemic, but in hopes to reinstate it as soon as practical. Mr. Hill enjoys traveling, golfing, and landscaping. Mr. Hill would like to explore ways to provide services to SOESC clients more efficiently and cost-effectively than they can do on their own. When asked, "How do you believe education is different today than it was when you were in school?" Mr. Hill answered "When I was in school, technology was a spirit duplicating machine and a 16-millimeter projector. Today, students have access to more information from their tablet or Chromebook than any library can hold."
