CELEBRATIONS
Great things are happening at WCS!
This week we were visited by author, Gary Schmidt! He spoke with students in grades 4-8 and lead writing workshops at different points throughout the day. He ended his time with us by signing books for students. We are so grateful that the PTA and Mr. Schmidt could make this amazing day happen!
INTERNET SAFETY NIGHT
RSU1 and the Sagadahoc Sheriff's Office have partnered together to invite parents, guardians, and caregivers to an Internet Safety Night. Come learn how to talk to students about what they see on the internet, as well as ways they can avoid being victimized on the internet. The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office, a local affiliate of Maine State Police Computer Crimes, has been working with RSU1 to share internet safety presentations to its students. These presentations cover privacy and security on the internet, good citizenship, and social media use. This new presentation is designed for adults trying to guide and safeguard their students online.

WCS ATHLETICS
5th GRADE
Maine Maritime Museum hosted the 5th graders last week. The class missed a boat trip last Spring due to weather and mechanical issues, but they invited the students back. The students started the journey by reviewing the geography and names along the Kennebec River as this connects to their Maine studies unit in Grade 4. Then, we moved into moments of just taking in the ecosystem by identifying animals. They saw several eagles fishing, and many other birds. We then got to see how the turbidity of the water is in the Kennebec, which was a great opportunity for enrichment on a current Science unit. The bonus portions were students overcoming fears of boating to demonstrate the Woolwich Way as an audience during instructional moments to driving the boat. It was a great day thanks to both the museum and the PTC for making it happen.
Things to Talk About
- Intramural Dodgeball for grades 6-8 will begin on Thursday, October 24th. Students need to have their permission slips in to the office or Mr. Hutchings before then. Dodgeball will happen on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and runs from 3:00-400 pm. The last day will be Tuesday, November 12th.
The Annual Harvest Supper is happening on Saturday, 10/19 from 4:30 - 6:30pm Tickets are available from any WCS 8th grader, and will also be on sale at the door, the night of the dinner. This event is a fundraiser for our 8th grade's trip to Washington, D.C. in the spring.
