Lake Orion High School
April 8th. 2024
Happy Solar Eclipse Day! Last week we wrapped up the third marking period and have moved into the home stretch of the school year. It is a good time to have a conversation with your student about finishing strong. This week starts state testing and three days of virtual learning. The schedule is on the website and later in this newsletter.
As your student prepares for state testing, parents can offer invaluable support to help them feel confident and prepared. Encourage your child to get a good night's sleep to ensure they are well-rested and alert for the exam. In the evening, help them review any key concepts or materials they may need to know, but avoid overwhelming them with last-minute cramming. Remind your child to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning to fuel their brain for optimal performance. Provide words of encouragement and reassurance, emphasizing that they have worked hard and are capable of doing their best. Lastly, remind them to stay calm and focused during the test, to read each question carefully, and to manage their time effectively. By offering support, encouragement, and practical tips, parents can help their children approach state testing with confidence and readiness.
Reminder the schedule for students testing or staying home for virtual learning is below. Thank you for all the support and keep an eye out for additional emails about testing over the next couple of days.

Free Tutoring
Dear LOHS Parents,
Lake Orion High School is extremely excited to announce a continuation of our free tutoring program. This program will allow your child to connect directly with LOHS staff in specific content areas (math, science, social studies, etc.) outside of normal school hours. These tutoring sessions are one hour and can take place either in person or virtually through Microsoft Teams (this is decided between the tutor and the student(s) in the group). This tutoring is intended as remediation as opposed to homework help; however, homework is often utilized to teach skills. As we do not have an inexhaustible number of tutors available, this program is on a first come, first serve basis.
To sign up your child, please fill out this form.
If you have additional questions, please contact Cathy Srock at Catherine.Srock@LOk12.org.
SERVICE HOURS SPOTLIGHT
Students who accumulate 100 service hours and above, receive the Service Learning Medal. The medal’s logo was designed by LOHS art students and it is engraved with the student’s name and number of hours achieved. The medal will be given at the Senior Breakfast and may be worn at graduation. It is important that once students reach 20 service hours, they continue to log their hours. Hours may be verified when applying to college or for scholarships as well as the Service Learning Medal. More information on the Service Learning Medal can be found on the LOHS Service Learning webpage at Service Learning - Lake Orion Community Schools (lakeorionschools.org).
