Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was good to welcome parents to school for parents’ evening last week. Hopefully, everyone feels up-to-date on progress and areas that we will work on together.
It has been a wonderful two weeks in school with so much enrichment and sporting opportunities for the children. The children been engaging wholeheartedly in the sessions; a selection of highlights feature below.
Thank you to our Governors who are conducting termly school visits this week and next. As well as having committee responsibilities, they kindly take an interest in a particular subject area and meet with the teachers to keep abreast of developments.
Ash Wednesday Mass
Father Stephen came along and celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass and those children who wished to receive ashes did so. Thank you to Year 5 for leading the readings and prayers so reverently. The children have been reflected this week on what their Lenten Journey might look like.
KS2 recorded the ‘Our Father’ prayer in French this week. We were completing our work on the ‘Year of the Word’ where we had a focus on the ‘Our Father’ prayer in preparation for the jubilee ‘Year of Hope’.
Nursery place for Summer or next year
A reminder to secure your Nursery place now for Summer 2025, September 2025 or January 2026 intake. Miss Flowers in the office can assist with this.
World Book Day
The children looked amazing yesterday for World Book Day—we had such a fantastic time celebrating together. We started the day by welcoming guest author Ned Hartley, who took the children through the process of creating their own comic, from developing a main character to building a plot. The children were so engaged, and some even shared their incredible ideas with everyone!
International Women’s Day
We are making more of a celebration of International Women’s Day with the girls at school this year.
We were reflecting on some of the things that we do as a school to support the advancement of our girls. We thought it would be nice to share.
- ensure the girls take on leadership roles, experience decision-making and take an interest in STEM subjects
- ensure the school environment supports the needs of girls and how they like to learn
- educate the girls to help them make informed decisions about their health and well-being
- provide the girls with access to quality education and personal development experiences
- raise girl's participation and achievement in sport
- encourage and promote the creative and artistic talent of girls
- celebrate their successes in and out of school
Today we took part in the Biggest Ever Football Session. Mr Wardell and Miss Flowers spent today with all the girls, providing football coaching. It was wonderful to see all the girls relaxed and enjoying the coaching sessions. Niamh Peacock, one of our former pupils, who plays for Arsenal and now England Under 17s, recorded a special video which we played at Celebration Assembly. The girls, at the start of the week, submitted some questions for her to answer. Thank you Niamh!

Girls Football vs Stanley
On Monday 24th February, we had a football match against Stanley. We tried hard and scored two goals. The final score was 7-2 to Stanley. Even though we lost, we felt that we had improved from our previous match.

Year 4 Girls Football
Yesterday we went to Kingston Grammar Sports Ground and we played 6 games. We won 4 games, drew 1 and lost 1. We really enjoyed the whole thing and Chloe particularly enjoyed saving many of the goals that were shot at her. Millie also enjoyed scoring the goals at the other end. While we were playing, music was being played and this was really fun. When Millie scored a goal, everyone danced. The other teams were really good so we are glad that we beat most of them. Millie was voted player of the day for scoring 14 goals and received a bag full of football cards for the WSL and all the players. We can't wait for the next one.
Cricket Taster Session
Last Friday morning, James Watson from Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club came into school and delivered cricket workshops for our KS2 classes. Immense fun was had and new skills were learnt. Children were practising their batting stance, and having a go at hitting the ball off the tees. It took co-ordination and concentration but we all got there in the end- having fun whilst learning! Thank you James for a fabulous morning, the children really enjoyed themselves. We would like to encourage everyone to think about joining the club. Membership is free! All abilities are welcome.
The girls section is currently training at Esher College on a Sunday 1-3pm. There are 4 sessions left before they start back at Bushy Park.
The boys train at Tiffin Boys on a Sunday 1-2pm.
Any parent wishing to sign their children up, please email James. See leaflet below.
Yr 5/6 Netball Tournament
On Wednesday Miss O'Brien and Mr Wardell took 7 children from Years 5 and 6 to Barn Elms to play in the Borough Netball Tournament. In the morning, we played in our first group games against: Deer Park, Radnor House, Hampton Hill, Collis and St Elizabeth's. The morning was a mixed bag as we lost some of the games and drew others but it was exciting getting to play against schools we haven't played against before (as well as old rivals too!). After lunch, we were regrouped into the 'Cup' and 'Plate' competitions- we were placed into the Plate and our new group consisted of: Chase Bridge, Marshgate, St Osmund's and Deer Park (once again). The team battled hard during these games, and were rewarded with some brilliant goals by Oscar and Liberty but unfortunately we were knocked out after our final group game and hadn't received enough points to progress to the semi-finals. Overall, it was a enjoyable day, and the team showed great sportsmanship throughout. Well done!
NPL Visit
Everyone was extremely excited as we gathered in the hall! Earlier in the morning we spotted a large container of liquid nitrogen which was -196 0C to be exact. They froze several things however my favourite two were the tennis ball and flowers. Using tongs one of the scientists dipped it into the liquid nitrogen and held it there for a few moments before it was lifted up steaming! Her assistant then bounced a regular ball so we could compare the two. When the frozen ball was bounced it made a cracking sound! Next, he stomped on the ball and it flattened! We were astonished!
The next activity required volunteers so a few people from each class came up. They dipped the flower in and it crumbled and flaked! It was amazing. Isla
The NPL visit was 100 percent amazing. I want to be an astrophysicist because I am interested in the chemistry that powers space craft and I love maths. They kept using liquid nitrogen which might be able to power space craft in the future. The bubble experiment was the best! Ian
The liquid nitrogen experiment was great especially when they put roses into the liquid for 15 seconds. The roses were solid and cracked. It was fascinating when they put balloons into the liquid too. Kalel
Thank you to NPL from everyone at school. We had an amazing day of workshops from Nursery to Year 6. Year 5 also had a splendid Rocket Launching workshop - design, build and launch!
French counting games with Mrs Coney
Year 3 did a number of outside games in French this week. We had to throw a beanbag to a number and then we counted in French up to the number it landed on in the game. The game was called 'Marelle'.
We did 'Duck, Duck, Goose'
then whoever had the basket behind them, they had to chase the goose around the circle. We also did skipping. Each time we skipped, we had to count the number of skips we did in French. We really enjoyed it because it helped us to count in French and it was really fun!
Faith in Action
Caritas Ambassador Project
As part of their next Caritas Ambassadors Project, the Year 5 pupils have decided to put their 'Love in Action' by raising money for the homeless in London. They have chosen Glass Door Homeless Charity as there are close links with the Teddington community. Please give as generously as you can.
Year 5 pupils have organised a book and toy sale on Wednesday 26th March 2025 and a sponsored walk on Thursday 3rd April 2025 to raise money for Glass Door.
Based in London, Glass Door coordinates the UK's largest network of open-access services for people affected by homelessness. Year-round, people find advice and support to end their homelessness through trained caseworkers based at partnering drop-in centres. During the hard months of winter, Glass Door also provides emergency winter accommodation.
Glass Door's vision is a world where no one has to sleep on the streets of London, and they're working every day to achieve this.
A Just Giving page has also been set up.

Lenten Prayer for Our School Community
Loving God,
As we journey through this season of Lent, we come together as a school community seeking Your guidance and grace. Help us to grow in faith, hope and love. Teach us to be kind to one another, to serve those in need and to reflect Your goodness in all we do.
May this time of prayer, fasting and giving bring us closer to You and to each other. Help us to live with compassion, humility and gratitude.
Bless our pupils, staff and families and lead us to the joy of Easter with renewed hearts.
Amen

Emotion Coaching for Parents, Governors and other Stakeholders
We would like to invite you to attend a training opportunity being run in partnership with the Achieving for Children Virtual School and the Achieving for Children Educational
Psychology Service, as part of the Attachment Aware Schools Award.
The training, titled "Introduction to Emotion Coaching," will provide you with insights into why children (and all of us) experience emotions, and the different parts of the brain that control our responses to stress and emotions. You'll learn how to use this knowledge to respond to children in a way that helps them to better understand and manage their feelings. Specifically, the training will cover:
- Understanding the theory behind Emotion Coaching
- Why Emotion Coaching is a useful approach
- The four steps of Emotion Coaching
- How to create scripts that you can use in your everyday interactions with children
By the end of the training, you will feel more confident in your ability to support children's emotional needs and help them to develop emotional resilience.
When: Thursday 8th May 2025 @ 9:15am, Sacred Heart Primary School Hall.
