Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back!
We’ve had a super first week back – the children have been fabulous.
We kicked off the week with World Earth Day and Mrs Slater led the school in a special worship to celebrate. Ask your child about it and what they have done in class – I know Year 1 were making bird feeders as I saw them counting Cheerios onto a pipe cleaner. I’m not sure all of the Cheerios made it outside but the levels of restraint were commendable!
On Thursday, we met as a staff team to look at the Behaviour policy. It was such a valuable evening as we looked at how the current policy is/isn’t working and what we can do to change it. We discussed sanctions and rewards and how we could make it clear to everyone what to expect. The results of this work will be shared with parents and carers once it has been received by school governors. A really important part of the work on Thursday was refining how we identify and reward children who always do the right thing – there are many of them!
This morning I met with the new chair of Friends of Kirk Fenton. We confirmed dates for lots of exciting activities to do before the end of the year and discussed possible projects for the fundraising. I’m really excited to be working with such an enthusiastic bunch and know they have lots of things up their sleeves that the children (and parents) will enjoy.
Have a fab weekend,
Mel Walmsley
