Sugar Hill Happenings

A Message from our Principal
Parents and Guardians,
We had a wonderful month of April! Some of our highlights included the Solar Eclipse viewing, Explore Sugar Hill trips, First Lego League Festival at Seckinger High School, the ice cream social for Autism Awareness Month, PTO Bingo Night, and the Beta Club Ceremony.
This month, we had two grade levels participate in their Explore Sugar Hill trips. The goal of these trips is to help students connect standards with learning opportunities in their own community. We have partnered with PTO, the Lanier Cluster, and the City of Sugar Hill to make these trips possible at no cost to students! Our 5th graders got to spend a day at Lake Lanier to study microorganisms and even had the chance to go out on a boat to collect water samples. Many of our students shared that this was their first time on a boat! In kindergarten, our students had an opportunity to go to the community gardens in Sugar Hill. Students got to touch plants and produce, conduct experiments, and hear from guest speakers from the community and The University of Georgia. We are thankful to the teachers, PTO, and community members that made these trips possible!
Recently, we received results back from the Continental Math League competitions. 4th grade placed 1st in the Nation for the Euclidean Division. 2nd grade place 1st in the Southeast Region for the Euclidean Division. Ten students in 2nd-4th grade were ranked as National Student Leaders. We are so proud of their hard work and amazing accomplishments!
As we close out the end of the year, I wanted to give a few reminders. We are asking that students do not take Chromebooks home for the remainder of the year to enable our tech team to check, clean, and update devices for the 24-25 school year. We are having our end of year parties on May 16. Your child’s teacher will share more information soon! Lastly, our Play 2 Learn program is returning to Sugar Hill next year for children ages 0-5. If you would like to learn more please contact liz.bradley@gcpsk12.org.
Thank you for your continued support!

Rock-N-Roll Bookfair
Let's Shake, Rattle, Roll at our upcoming BOOK FAIR starting Thursday, May 9 to Wednesday, May 15 from 7:30 AM-3:30 PM. Our online book fair will open May 8 and run through May 21. Click on Sugar Hill Online Book Fair to learn more about ordering books online through Scholastic Book Fair and/or to set up your eWallet. Conveniently, the eWallet offers a convenient digital payment option for students to use if you do not prefer sending cash or checks to school. Our Scholastic homepage is a great place to preview book fair titles, search for specific titles, and order titles that aren’t available at our in-school fair. Books are delivered straight to your home. Thanks in advance to all the volunteers who will help with our fair. Volunteers make it possible for us to run a smooth Book Fair and create a fun environment, too! Our media center crew can't wait to help your children discover new books, peak their curiosity, and grow their love of reading.
