Knights Roundtable
September 2022
The Office of Diversity, Equity and Unity Welcomes Everyone Back to School!
Dear Families,
The Knights Roundtable is the Diversity, Equity, and Unity newsletter created for DJO students, family, and community. Each month will center around a theme. The initiative on Diversity, Equity, and Unity is key to the ability of Bishop O'Connell to fulfill its mission and to have a positive effect on society. Sit back, grab a snack, and enjoy reading about current events, student stories, and how to be involved in making O'Connell a place where all students feel proud to say, we are family. GO, KNIGHTS!

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed to highlight the accomplishments and contributions of Hispanic Americans who have encouraged others to attain success.
How can you educate yourself and others?
Be inquisitive. Seek and be deliberate in your desire to learn. Opening our eyes to diverse individuals also broadens our perspective of the world.
Do your work: It is important to gain a better understanding of the history of Latin American communities in the United States, which includes not only the injustice but also the advocacy and contributions of those who have been influential in shaping this country and countries around the world.
Get Involved: There are dozens of organizations advocating for reforms to immigration rules that will safeguard and respect the rights and dignity of every individual who passes through these systems
Look into local figures: We have numerous influential local artists, scientists, authors, athletes, and advocates in the United States who identify as Latin American. How many do you know?
