President's Message
Most long-time ATA members have read or heard of the Union Code of Conduct:
- I will not criticize any union colleague except to the individual directly.
- If any union colleague is being criticized in my presence, I will confront the criticism and ask that it stop.
- I will not participate in any conversations with management that criticizes, or negatively speculates about, any union colleague.
- I will settle my differences with colleagues within my union.
- I will engage in debate, offer others every opportunity for debate and respect minority viewpoints, but I will observe and support the majority mandate of my union.
The Union Code of Conduct reminds us that if you have a concern regarding another ATA Unit Member(s), our hope is that you speak to them first and try to quash any issues before reaching out to other colleagues, admin, or the Union. While we are all human and are not required to like every person in ATA, your site, or the District, we are required to, however, treat one another with the respect that we would wish for ourselves.
Nevertheless, ATA recognizes that there might be times or circumstances when it is impossible to reconcile differences. If you find yourself in a conflict with ATA colleagues which is causing difficulties in your job or you feel that your rights are being violated, reach out first to ATA. We will help problem-solve these conflicts, mediate, and/or, if necessary, bring the matter to the district (in severe cases in which such member v. member issues might be a failing on the part of the District).
Remember, ATA’s strength is in our unity, mutual respect, and understanding, and we should always act accordingly.
Ralph Hernandez
Reminder: Submit Your Proposals for 2024-2025 Contract Negotiations Now
This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for submitting your proposals for the 2024-2025 reopener contract negotiations is rapidly approaching. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to make your voice heard and help shape the future of our organization.
All proposals must be submitted through the link below by October 14th at 5 PM. To ensure accuracy and transparency, emails or texted proposals to bargaining team members will not be accepted.
We appreciate your cooperation and thank you for providing your name and personal email. This information is only seen by the ATA Bargaining Team and may be necessary for clarification or follow-up questions.
Remember that non-dues-paying members can submit proposals, but they cannot vote on proposals or vote when we ratify the contract with the District.

Stull Objectives
If you are being evaluated, you should be finalizing your objectives. Remember, it is you, not your administrator, who selects your objectives. If the administrator wants to change your objectives and you don't find the suggestions appropriate, talk with your representative or call the ATA office and we can assist you. If you and your administrator absolutely can't agree, we do have a procedure to arbitrate.
Ensuring Safety in Schools
According to the ATA contract, the Alhambra Unified School District and the Alhambra Teachers Association recognize that everyone has the right to a safe and healthy school environment, and the community promotes mutual respect, tolerance, and acceptance. It has a zero-tolerance policy for any behavior that compromises the safety of the school.
If you feel that a parent or guardian's communication is threatening in any way, please inform your admin. The District is responsible for ensuring the safety of both students and staff and will support you in addressing the issue upon request.
Moreover, if you ever feel fearful or concerned for your safety during a meeting with a parent, colleague, or admin, you have the right to excuse yourself from the situation. In such an event, please get in touch with your admin and/or HR.
Don't Forget to Fill Out the "Predegsignation of Personal Treating Physician" Form
This form is important because it allows you to choose a personal physician before any work-related injury occurs. It's crucial to confirm whether your doctor accepts and treats workers' compensation injuries. By selecting your own doctor instead of going to a District-referred workers' comp medical group, you can ensure that your physician has access to your complete medical history and can best assess your medical needs in the event of an on-the-job injury.
Please note that if you have Kaiser insurance, you do not need to get a pre-designation. Kaiser is in the Sedgwick MPN. If you seek treatment for a work injury at Kaiser, you MUST go to the Kaiser On The Job facility in the City of Industry. This means you will not be treated by your Primary Treating Physician (PTP) at your preferred Kaiser location.
