DOUGLAS COLLEGE
Applications for Douglas College open at 8:30 am on October 3. They will remain open until programs are full. Many of our programs are first-qualified, first-admitted so applying early is crucial.
Please note that the Academic Foundations for Potential Nursing Applicants, (the pathway into Bachelor of Science in Nursing) fills up quickly. We recommend applicants to apply first thing on October 3 as these applications are only open for three business days (and sometimes close as early as noon on the first day).
Personalize students’ experience with a Custom Viewbook
The Custom Viewbook. It’s a personalized digital viewbook tailored to students’ interests. It helps reduce the confusion of where to start on a post-secondary website. It takes just minutes to create and can be edited at any time. You can share the link with your students so they can build their book, create a book for them using their information and email address, or keep it handy for one-on-one discussions where you can build a viewbook together.
Disability and Community Studies Admission Changes
Starting from the Fall 2023 intake, all applicants to Certificate in Behaviour Intervention, Certificate in Education Assistance and Inclusion and Diplomas in Classroom and Community Support will need to have evidence of completion of at least 60 hours of supervised work (paid or volunteer) in a department-related setting again. This requirement was previously waived for the 2021 and 2022 intakes.
Entrance Scholarships
Entrance Scholarships and Awards for prospective students also open at 8:30 am on October 3. We revamped our Entrance Scholarships and Awards process to reduce barriers and make them more accessible to students.

Program Tool
We are thrilled to have launched a new and significantly enhanced program tool. This is a key tool for prospective undergraduate students who are looking to see what the U of A has to offer and what academic requirements are needed to apply. The new tool’s improved search interface and functionality will allow users to search, sort and filter through U of A program content more efficiently and in more ways. Students can start browsing at uab.ca/programs.
Historical Admission Averages
We encourage students to apply early, as admission is competitive, works on a rolling basis and space in each program is limited. This year, to better serve prospective students, historical admission averages can be viewed at uab.ca/averages.
Please note: these historical admission averages do not serve as a guarantee for future admission.
Indigenous Recruitment
Indigenous students and counsellors are welcome to contact indigenous@ualberta.ca or Trevor Phillips (Manager, Indigenous Recruitment) at trevor.phillips@ualberta.ca for all application questions, including program selection, funding and scholarships and identity documentation.
SCHOLARSHIPS
HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP
The Horatio Alger Association of Canada is excited to announce that we have re-opened our scholarship application for the 2022 Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarship Program. We would like to invite graduating high school students (currently in grade 12) from your high school who meet eligibility requirements to apply.
In keeping with the educational mission of the Horatio Alger Association, the scholarship programs provide financial assistance to students in Canada who have financial needs and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include completion of grade 12 by June 2023, commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree starting September 2023, and Canadian citizenship. The Association will be awarding a total of 60 scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each to deserving scholarship recipients. More information about the scholarship and eligibility can be found on our website. The deadline for students to apply is Monday, October 31, 2022.
LORAN SCHOLARSHIP
The Loran Award is an exciting opportunity for students considering university studies in fall 2023. The only award of its kind in Canada, the Loran Award is a four-year leadership enrichment program comprised of summer work experiences, mentorship, annual gatherings, an annual living stipend, a tuition waiver at one of 25 university partners, and a community of people working to build a better world.
It is much more than simply a financial scholarship for post-secondary studies. It is an opportunity to build critical skills and capacity for leadership, to expand horizons by taking on new challenges and exploring diverse experiences, and to join a community of purpose-driven peers who are committed to leaving the world better than they found it.
To identify Loran Scholars, we look beyond the transcript to find evidence of character, commitment to service, and the potential for leadership. We look for those who are humble, inquisitive, and thoughtful; who shun the status quo and pursue their own unique paths; who bring others along, will act in the face of injustices, and are inspired to build a better world. It is the long-term mission of our organization to invest in the development of our country’s diverse leadership ecosystem. We believe our society will thrive if we ensure that these high-potential students are given the opportunity to imagine, explore, and create the future.
The deadline to apply is October 12, 2022 before 8pm ET (5 PM PST).
All eligible students are welcome to apply by filling out the application, uploading a transcript, and naming a reference. There is no limit to the number of students who may apply from a single school.
A webinar for students interested in the Loran Award was held last week and the recording is available here.
