Principal's Update
Greetings Gator Nation!
SO much Greatness this last week at the land of the Gators!
- Our annual Dodge Ball tournament ended with Mr. Appel's class as the 5/6 class winners and Humpke/Kendall's the 7/8 TAs victors! The Appel's team beat the 5 and 6 grade teachers by 1 sole survivor. And the staff were victorious against the 7th and 8th graders. It was a super fun event and so cool to hear everyone cheering for the final survivors in each match. Our teams showing up in great matching outfits to show class/TA pride.
- Our 6th graders also had a special visitor this week! Secretary of State, Sarah Copeland Hanzas and Deputy Secretary, Lauren Hibbert presented to 6th Graders. They shared about their work at the VT State House and learned about the bills that 6th graders are writing in their Civics class.
- Our Up4Learning Students went to UES to help our RVS 4th Grade Transition Program.
- Our student bystander leaders continued their work in collaborating with social workers and MHS students.
- Our MSMS Sustain Student Leadership team went to Norwich University for a Leadership Conference hosted by Norwich Students and Up for Learning.
- Our Spring sports season is off to a great start with Ultimate Frisbee, Baseball, Boys' Lacrosse and Track and Field. Our Track and Field program is HUGE this year!
- Our newest club the SAMBA club has started at MSMS!
Best, Julie
Caregiver Opportunity: Interview Committees
We are always looking for Caregiver volunteers who may be able to spend some time in our interview processes for the following school year. We are actively in the process of interviewing for a few positions for the 2024-2025 school year. Caregiver input and insight is so appreciated throughout the process. Are you interested in potentially serving our community this way? Please email Julie at JulieConrad@mpsvt.org to let me know. We will always try to have at least one, ideally two Caregivers join our interviews! Thanks for considering!
Support our Gators Going to Washington: National History Day Competition!
On April 6 MSMS participated in Vermont History Day, a statewide competition to showcase original research-based history projects. Students compete with scholars across the state, and the top winners are invited to National History Day in June at the University of Maryland. This year, 25 MSMS students won awards at VHD, and 11 qualified to enter the National History Day competition!!
MSMS is can cover the registration fees. However, families are still responsible for transportation and accommodations. We want every student to be able to attend, so we are asking for donations to help with these expenses. Anything you can provide to assist these families to allow their students to experience this amazing opportunity will be greatly appreciated - Thank You!

MSMS Community Alliance
Hello Caretakers-
We will be having an in-person MSMS-CA meeting on May 8th from 6-8pm in the middle school library with plans to discuss some end of the year housekeeping, next year's budget, brainstorming fun activities for all grades, and recruiting more help with the more administrative end of the MSMS-CA. All are welcome to attend.
The end of the school year is nearing and with that comes the 8th grade graduation and dance. Traditionally 8th grade parents have planned the dance and 7th grade (or any lower grade) families help set up for and chaperone the dance- which occurs the evening of the graduation. I have lots of planning information to share that was kindly passed on from the women who planned last year's festivities.
Volunteer duties would include:
-Picking the location of dance
-Music and decorations
-Arranging chaperones
-Organizing flowers/boutonnieres for the graduation ceremony
-Arranging food/drink for the dance
-Staying within set budget
If you are interested in helping plan the dance please sign up via SignUpGenius HERE.
And remember: NO volunteers = NO dance = Many sad 8th graders
