Congratulations!
Congratulations to Dr. JoLynn Prochaska on being named the 2024-2025 Ten Oaks Middle School Teacher of the Year. "Dr. P" teaches 6th grade science. She goes the extra mile to make sure that her students have all that they need to succeed. During her time at Ten Oaks she has served as the 6th Grade Lead Teacher and the Science Department Chair. She has also been the Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Carolina Forest High School. She is a very involved staff member, and she is always willing to share her time, skills, and talents with her colleagues, students, parents, and our school community. Dr. Prochaska leads with a servant heart and is always looking for solutions. If she sees a need she doesn't hesitate to take action. She is proactive while remaining positive. At the beginning of this school year "Dr. P" was instrumental in making sure many of our staff members became CPR/First Aid certified and that all our classrooms are supplied with fully stocked safety and emergency kits. We couldn't think of a better teacher, educator, and person to represent our amazing school this year.
Congratulations to Dr. Shelley Samon, our TOMS Staff Member of the Week!
Dr. Samon is an 8th Grade Science Teacher at TOMS and this is his second year here.
My favorite memory of middle school was dissecting frogs, snakes, worms, and crayfish in my 7th grade science class.
My advice to my middle school self would be... Nobody is going to treat you better then the way you treat yourself. Stop expecting others to give you 100% effort when helping you when you don't give 100% effort to help yourself.
The Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) Grant is awarded by the South Carolina Department of Education to deserving schools who have applied for the grant and demonstrated specific needs of their Fine Arts Program that the funds from the DAP Grant can help alleviate. Ten Oaks first applied for the DAP Grant for the 2023-24 School Year and we were successful. We were awarded $18,000 and we were able to purchase Acoustic Shell Panels, Choral Risers, and various visual arts supplies for our Fine Arts Department, as well as funding for professional development for our Fine Arts teachers.
Congratulations to Mr. Chad Hammer! Thanks to his hard work and dedication to improving our Fine Arts Program, Ten Oaks Middle School has been awarded the DAP Grant again for the 2024-25 School Year. We will once again be purchasing Acoustic Shell Panels, Choral risers, visual arts supplies, and attending professional development with the $18,000 awarded to us this year. Thank you, Mr. Hammer!
CONGRATULATIONS to TOMS 8th grader Lucas Uphold!! He was voted the October Beazer Homes Student of the Month! This honor comes with a plaque, a prize from Beazer Homes and a follow up story in our local papers.
