Coleman Elementary News

Tomorrow, please have your child(ren) wear RED, WHITE & BLUE to celebrate Patriot's Day with us. As schedules and emergency calls permit, several First Responders are scheduled to join us during the day to allow us a chance to thank them for all they do to keep us safe. Our students have made banners, cards and decorations to hang around the school. We will be sure to share pictures of this very special day and let us Never Forget.

We are off to a great start Warrior families! We are in our third week of school and everyone is right back into the routines of learning. We are so proud of the students we welcome each day and are grateful for the strong home support that enables them to come focused and ready for success. If at any time your family has a need that we can assist with, please reach out to us. We have amazing community partners that donate a variety of things throughout the year including school supplies, weekend food bags, coats and shoes. If we don't have what you need, we will do our best to provide the names and numbers of community resources that can help. The Franklin County United Way Helpline can be reached by dialing 211 and can assist with many needs. Don't forget about our Blessing Box located right in front of the school by the main entrance. Take what you need and leave what you can but above all be blessed.

Covid Safety:

We continue to have safety protocols in place to slow the spread of Covid and have done well with our efforts so far. While masks are not required at this time, students are very familiar with 1, 2, 3 between you and me, for now that is the way it has to be as well as our little song to remind students to keep masks on during the entire bus ride to and from school each day. We will also continue to use assigned seating in the cafeteria.

GREAT NEWS!!! Work on the new playground additions is set to begin soon with hopes of being complete by the beginning of October. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for this timeline. I know the kids are super excited and there will be a new set of swings at the left end of this structure that is not pictured. The blue section will be a rubberized surface instead of gravel. We will keep you posted on the progress. This addition is made possible by YOU and the Bond Issue our community passed last year. THANK YOU!!!

Several staff members are welcoming new additions to the classroom! As part of the Pets in the Classroom project, several staff members have been awarded grants to introduce and support a class pet. Mrs. Watson has a hamster, Mrs. McElwain has borrowed a ball python to see if that will be her choice and I have a 5 gallon aquarium in my office. Ms. Lenhart will also be getting an aquarium. Pets are proven to be natural stress relievers and provide kids with a chance to learn about responsibilities involved in caring for pets. Ask your kids about our new furry, fishy and scaly Warriors!

At this time, we will not host a formal Grandparent's Day due to safety concerns with Covid. We had originally and tentatively put this on the calendar for September 24. Please take time to celebrate those special loved ones and give them an extra big, but gentle, squeeze from Coleman! We look forward to a day where this can be part of our annual celebration once again!
