This landmark legislation advanced equality in American society and pushed the nation to live up to its democratic principles in all sectors of society. This special edition of The Idea Book is a companion to the Library of Congress exhibition, The Civil Rights Act of 1964: A Long Struggle for Freedom. It features ideas for teaching with primary sources. The exhibition and teaching materials serve as a powerful testimony to the people who truly made history through their successful efforts to achieve this extraordinary milestone in Civil Rights history.
